Full Time | 40 hours per week, Tuesday - Saturday | On-Site



About the Role



Reporting to the Animal Care Manager, the Dog Care Coordinator is responsible for the care and welfare of the canines in the care of the Georgian Triangle Humane Society. As lead of the dog care team, ensure that the volunteer experience within the GTHS is positive, meaningful and engaging.

The role involves maintaining a clean and welcoming shelter environment. It requires delivering a high standard of care through enrichment activities, medication administration, and monitoring overall wellbeing. Responsibilities include following prescribed medical treatment plans, keeping accurate and detailed medical records. All intake, medical, and behavior documentation must be complete and accurate in animal record software.

The role involves overseeing daily volunteer supervision, scheduling, and training to ensure full coverage and adherence to GTHS policies and procedures. Responsibilities include coordinating onboarding, refresher training, and cross-training opportunities, developing and reviewing dog care protocols, and fostering effective communication within the team. Additional duties include conducting quarterly team meetings, ensuring behavioral and medical plans are followed, and providing backup support across animal care roles. The role also supports shelter organization, stocking, and cleanliness, performing light janitorial tasks as required, while building strong relationships with volunteers to keep them engaged and recognized.

What You'll Bring



Diploma in an animal related field and/or equivalent work experience for a min. of 1 year Candidates must possess or commit to achieving the ONE of the following certifications or an equivalent accreditation within one year: Karen Pryor Academy certified trainer (KPA) and/or Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) Ability to work with all breeds, strengths and sizes of dogs A sound foundation in basic dog handling & canine behavior, which matches the handling protocols of GTHS Recognition and understanding of parasites and common shelter ailments Ability to develop a positive and productive relationship Experience giving medications, subcutaneous fluids, nail trimming and micro-chipping Ability to multitask, work under pressure and willingness to learn multiple areas of the shelter Demonstrates understanding and passion for animal welfare Self-motivated with a proven ability to complete tasks with competency and accuracy Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programs Ability to work weekends and evenings as required.

Working Conditions



This role requires work with animals on-site (feline and canine) in a high-volume shelter environment. This position necessitates regular contact and some hands-on work with animals of diverse breeds, sizes, and behaviors. The work environment inherently contains common animal-related allergens, including but not limited to fur, dander, and cleaning agents. This role also requires prolonged sitting (up to 8 hours/day), computer usage for extended periods, as well as standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 30 pounds as necessary. Additional duties may include performing physical tasks related to animal handling, cleaning, and general facility maintenance. This role may require working alone and closing the animal centre. As such, you are able to perform all the essential duties of the position in such an environment.
