JOB SUMMARY UNDER THE GENERAL SUPERVISION OF THE DEAN OF TECHNOLOGIES SCIENCES AND RELATED TECHNOLOGIES, AND THE FUNCTIONAL SUPERVISION OF THE CHAIR OF INFORMATION AND LIBRARY TECHNOLOGIES, TO MAINTAIN, DEVELOP AND FACILITATE THE USE OF INFORMATION AND LIBRARY TECHNOLOGIES\' LAB SPACES, AND TO SUPPORT STUDENT LEARNING.
UNDER GENERAL AUTHORITY OF THE ACADEMIC DEAN AND THE DIRECT SUPERVISION OF THE LIBRARY MANAGER TO PROVIDE SERVICES IN THE LIBRARY AND MEDIA SERVICES.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

INFORMATION & LIBRARY TECHNOLOGIES (70%)
Support learning

  • Set up simulated work situations in automation, acquisitions, information retrieval, document formatting, computerization, library systems, etc.
  • Assist in set-up of assignments and reviews for study and lab work, exams and quizzes, and in the preparation and development of examples
  • Help faculty and students use and apply library tools (including bibliographic sources, cataloguing and classification tools, etc.)
  • Support students in their learning and adaptation to the program and to the profession of information management
  • Assist in administration of fieldwork. Design, update and collate all documentation for teachers, students and supervisors for fieldwork placements. Interact with stage supervisors as needed.
  • Attend and assist presentations by Library reference librarians to ILT classes
  • Liaise with Library staff and teachers; schedule and assist with course related experiential Library activities.
  • Schedule and assist with ILT course-related experiential Library and Media Services activities.
Fall Semester Reference Activity.
  • Liaise with Library Reference staff and ISS III teacher. Schedule two one-hour reference desk visits per student. Ongoing throughout the semester.
  • Supervise two one-hour visits with each student in ISS III
Winter Semester Circulation Activity
  • Liaise with Library Circulation staff and Library Systems teacher. Schedule two one-hour visits per student. Ongoing throughout the semester.
  • Supervise students in shelf reading activity. Verify the students\' work. Report difficulties to teacher.
Lab, MakerSpace and classroom maintenance
  • Supervise and maintain facilities, collections and equipment in the classroom, integrated MakerSpace and computer lab
  • Assist faculty and students in the use of equipment, book, audio-visual and computer software and hardware materials
  • Demonstrate all lab apparatus and access to bibliographic and integrated library systems databases and microcomputer systems.
  • Maintain inventory and control of manuals, catalogues, equipment, audio-visual software, computer and laptop hardware and software used in lab sessions and lab generally
  • Research latest developments in field of documentation and information sciences and advise on, recommend and integrate acquisitions into labs of appropriate courses
  • Assist in integration of computer, hardware and software, and other lab materials into appropriate courses
  • Maintain and update instructions for a variety of software used in the lab
  • Orient students to equipment and provide lab assistance
  • Perform minor repairs, adjustments and routine cleaning of equipment and recommend replacement of equipment when needed
  • Troubleshoot software installation
  • Control circulation of Dewey Decimal Classification sets, Library of Congress schedules, book repair equipment and other lab materials
Support the Department
  • Maintain contacts with other departments, colleges and libraries, bookstores, commercial organizations; facilitate arrangement of guest speakers and field trips
  • Assist in pre-registration and registration of ILT students
  • Maintain serial subscription control, claim missing issues, route serials and make current awareness notations and recommendations for renewal or elimination of subscriptions
  • Research, collect and post regular and summer job postings. Maintain job posting archive and post in department and to ILT Job Hunters group.
  • Assist in administration of Mock Interviews
  • Answer queries about department, lab and program
  • Daily lab clean-up
  • Maintain filing system
  • Maintain supply cupboard
  • Annual shelf-cleaning and weeding
  • Send out requisitions, chase back orders, process incoming orders
  • Sit on ILT Council and on ILT Advisory Committee as staff representative
  • Take minutes at Department, Program and Advisory Committee meetings
  • Help develop and carry-out strategies for promotion of the ILT program and recruitment of students; participate in promotional and marketing activities; maintain display board and case
  • Perform other tasks as may be assigned by the Department or Program Dean
LIBRARY AND MEDIA SERVICES (30%)
  • Act as liaison person between Library and Media Services and the Information & Library Technologies Department.

  • Assist at Circulation or Reference as needed for backup
  • Co-coordinate ILT events and activities (ie. Book Buzz) with the librarians
  • Assist as needed in cataloguing newly acquired library material (print and non-print) in compliance with current library standards using LCSH, AACR2, RDA and Library of Congress Classification schedules
  • Assist as needed in importing new records and update electronic book and video collections
  • Assist as needed in receiving and processing new periodicals to be added into the collection in accordance with the periodical conservation guidelines
  • Assist as needed in maintaining the Fiction and Career collection through acquisition, removal or replacement of documents
  • Perform other tasks as may be assigned by the Library Manager
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
College diploma in Information and Library Technologies or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
  • English - Advanced oral and written
  • French -Basic written comprehension and written
  • French - Intermediate oral
  • Knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Windows, Outlook
  • Operation of office equipment, personal computers and audio-visual equipment
  • Autonomous - able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to provide clear explanations and to coach students and faculty in the use of lab equipment, computers and software.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards (eg: Rules for Description and Access (RDA), NISO, ISO 9000+)
  • Aptitude for the following: computer systems; on-line searching, information management
  • Facility with database software including Regard, BestMARC and other library, archival and records management an asset.
  • Ability to multitask in a busy and open environment with many interruptions.
  • Ability to prioritize and respond to multiple and simultaneous needs of faculty, students and College
  • Ability to communicate firmly but kindly with students. Public relations and customer service skills an asset.insert specific requirement here
