Hours of Work: Team 2 -2:00 pm to 10:00 p.m. 5 days per week
Location: Lethbridge, Alberta
Job Purpose:
The Diversion Outreach Worker's main focus is addressing concerns within the community regarding individuals who are intoxicated and require access to emergency shelter services or other appropriate housing options. The Diversion Outreach Worker will liaison with emergency services and community businesses to mitigate problematic situations in the downtown area and other identified 'hot spots' in the community.
Supervision:
The Diversion Outreach Worker will receive supervision from the ICA Team Lead.
Service Orientation:
The Diversion Outreach Team will work in pairs of two and will work on an outreach basis to provide productive and meaningful transportation, identification of and when possible and appropriate, intervention with potential nuisances. Daily responsibilities of a Diversion Outreach worker will include, but not limited to the following:
Collaborate with community stakeholders such as, Lethbridge Regional Police Service Downtown Policing Unit, Emergency Medical Services, Lethbridge Shelter, medical professionals, Alberta Employment and Income, and the business community
Locate individuals and map their locations throughout the downtown area
Plan and execute alternatives to shelter use whenever safe and appropriate to do so
Provide access to mental health and addictions screening, referrals for psychiatric consultation, mental health supports, and referrals to other community resources.
Provide 'Warm Hand-offs' to Community LINKS Information and Referral Services to access Housing supports
Work with a client focused approach, offering respect and empathy towards clients and their decisions
Contribute constructively to the ongoing development of the team
Participate in and make use of all available training and development opportunities
Keep accurate records of activity and intakes, both electronically and written
Qualifications:
Completed post-secondary education from an accredited college or university with major course work in a related field
Previous work experience in a related field
Experience:
Work with high risk populations
Knowledge and experience in harm reduction strategies, crisis intervention, and therapeutic communication
Work with a variety of addiction and mental health services and supports across the continuum of care
Work in a face-paced environment with the ability to make quick decisions
Attributes and Skills:

Hours of Service:
Hours are 7:00 am - 10:00 pm Monday through Friday and 7:00 am - 7:00 pm Saturday's and Sunday's.
Target Group:
People that are street-involved and spend a significant amount of time on the street, in public places, or outdoors and have one or more of the following characteristics:
Experiencing homelessness
Home is not a place they can or desire to be
They are involved in street-based work
They have mental health and/or substance abuse issues
Their social connections are on the street
Hiring Requirements:
Current First aid/CPR
Current & Clear Criminal Record Check
Current & Clear Youth intervention Check
Class 4 Drives License
