Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Building Services, the District Supervisor directly supervises custodial staff working evenings, nights and weekends in widely dispersed locations across the University campus. Consult with Director on a variety of matters including maintenance, security, effectiveness of material and equipment. Assist in maintaining sanitation standards, procedures and techniques. Supervise, train and coach employees on many procedures and techniques.

Primary Responsibilities:

Directly supervises custodial staff working evenings, nights and weekends in widely dispersed locations across the University campus.

Consults with Director on a variety of matters including maintenance, security, effectiveness of material and equipment.

Assists in maintaining sanitation standards, procedures and techniques. -Supervise, train and coach employees on many procedures and techniques, including monitoring attendances.

Applies and interprets provisions of the SEU Collective Agreement in consultation with others

Directly supervises a great number of unionized employees and casuals on evening shift and unionized employees and casuals on night shift. Employees are assigned to multiple buildings on campus.

In consultation with the Director, administers the collective agreement.

Coordinates activities with other Managers as the need arises.

Develops methods to motivate work force and promote attendance.

Trains, participate in orientation, and evaluate new employees.

Ensures departmental goals and objectives are properly communicated to all employees.

Enlists cooperation in promoting and meeting defined targets.

Evaluates performance and recommends corrective actions where needed.

Conducts daily control inspections to ensure productivity and complete reports.

Conducts periodically scheduled Quality Control Audits.

Follows-up where needed, initiating corrective action or extra resources depending on findings.

Conducts Quality Control Audits for buildings served by sub-contractors. Ensures proper follow-up where needed.

Conducts and documents verbal discipline interviews as necessary and participates in disciplinary actions.

Assists in the compilation of data for formal hearings.

Ensures Director is fully apprised of all activities in their area.

May attend court appearances or arbitration cases as a representative of the Department.

Coordinates special work assignments for CSST cases in close collaboration with the Director and the Benefits Office

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Proven knowledge of sanitation and custodial-related operations and services. Demonstrated ability to supervise, train and coach employees. Demonstrated ability to clearly transmit and receive information. Demonstrated ability to work in a PC environment using word processing, databases and spreadsheets. English and French, spoken and written.

Minimum Education and Experience: DEC III 3 Years Related Experience /

Annual Salary: (MPEX Grade 03) $59,870.00 - $70,440.00 - $81,010.00

Hours per Week: 33.75 (Full time)
