We are seeking a District Mechanic to join our Fleet team. This position performs mechanical repairs and maintenance work necessary to keep the Company\'s motor vehicles and heavy equipment in good safe working condition. This position requires comprehensive knowledge of vehicles and equipment and ensures all work results in a safe condition for the employee, co-workers, and the public.

What You Get to Do:

  • Repair, maintain and diagnose problems on a variety of vehicles and equipment in order to provide safe reliable vehicles, heavy work equipment and trailers upon completion of repairs.
  • Inspect vehicles and equipment during scheduled preventative maintenance checks giving particular importance to factors ensuring safe operation. Perform annual government CVIP safety inspections where required.
  • Maintain fleet, stock and maintenance records.
  • Install special wiring and equipment when preparing new vehicles for service.
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment and shop tools safely and efficiently.
  • Liaise with equipment and vehicle dealers and fuel and lubrication suppliers.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget by identifying any major fleet changes and units which need replacement.
  • Review purchased fleet items from local dealers prior to payment.
  • May be required to direct the work of other employees assigned to the garage.
Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Must possess a Journeyman Automotive or Heavy Duty Technician Certificate from a recognized Apprenticeship Program.
  • Experience with both automotive and on/off road heavy equipment would be an asset.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Class 3 driver\'s license with air brake endorsement and an in-house Operators Certificate.
  • Proficiency using a variety of software applications as required by the workgroup.
  • Must demonstrate good verbal and written communication skill, learning ability, organizational skill, technical aptitude, initiative, mature judgment and responsible work habits and maintain good internal and external relations.
  • Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program certificate or ability to obtain certification is required.
  • Must be available to assist in emergencies that may arise on a 24-hour basis.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of appropriate company, environment, health and safety policies and procedures and related regulations.
  • Must be able and prepared to work in all types of weather.
  • Alternate fuel knowledge would be an asset.
  • Computer skills, and knowledge of a fleet management system, would be an asset.
  • This position is a Safety-Sensitive position and has additional pre-employment requirements as identified in the Alcohol & Drug Policy 6.2.3 Applicant Testing.
