District Manager - Thrift Store Operations

About Us

National Thrift is a mission-driven thrift retailer focused on providing affordable goods, supporting sustainability through reuse, and giving back to our community. We currently operate 3 thrift store locations and are expanding, with plans for continued growth.

We're seeking a District Manager who can lead, coach, and inspire store teams to deliver strong results and an excellent customer experience as we grow.

Position Overview

The District Manager oversees the daily operations, performance, and growth of our 3 thrift store locations, with additional stores to be added. This role is responsible for sales, profitability, staffing, training, donation flow, merchandising, and operational excellence, while ensuring that each store reflects our mission and brand standards.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

o

Oversee day-to-day operations of all stores in the district to ensure consistency and efficiency.

o

Monitor KPIs including sales, margins, payroll, donation volume, conversion, and shrink.

o

Conduct regular store visits to review performance, provide coaching, and ensure company standards are met.

o

Implement and enforce company policies, procedures, and safety standards.

People Management & Development

o

Lead, coach, and mentor Store Managers and Assistant Managers.

o

Support recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training for store-level positions.

o

Create a positive, inclusive culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and customer service.

o

Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and manage corrective action when necessary.

Sales, Marketing & Customer Experience

o

Drive sales growth and profitability across all locations.

o

Ensure merchandising, pricing, and promotions are executed according to company guidelines.

o

Champion a strong customer service culture, ensuring friendly, helpful, and efficient service.

o

Identify local marketing and community partnership opportunities to drive traffic and donations.

Donation & Inventory Management

o

Oversee donation intake, processing, and inventory flow to maximize product availability and sales.

o

Ensure stores follow standards for sorting, pricing, quality control, and rotation of merchandise.

o

Work with Store Managers to balance inventory across locations based on demand and sales trends.

Financial & Administrative Accountability

o

Develop and manage district budgets, including sales targets, labor, and controllable expenses.

o

Analyze financial reports and take action to address variances and underperformance.

o

Ensure accurate reporting, cash handling, and adherence to all financial controls.

Qualifications

o

4+ years of multi-unit retail management experience (thrift, discount, or non-profit retail experience an asset).

o

Proven track record of leading teams to meet or exceed sales and performance goals.

o

Strong understanding of retail operations, merchandising, and inventory management.

o

Experience with hiring, coaching, performance management, and team development.

o

Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.

o

Comfort with data and KPIs; able to read reports and translate them into action plans.

o

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; ability to travel between store locations regularly.

o

Ability to lift up to [30-50 lbs] and spend extended periods standing/walking in stores and donation areas.

Schedule & Compensation

Full-time, typically [40+] hours per week, with flexibility for evenings and weekends as needed. Base salary: $60,000 annually + commissions based on performance.
