Job Description


GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

Manages the flow of inbound and outbound goods (from raw materials to finished goods) at the Toronto distribution centre. Ensures that goods are dispatched on time to the appropriate destinations and in the expected quantities. Responsible for oversight of the evaluation of freight services, negotiating contracts, and managing relationships with chosen vendors. Responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with third party warehouse providers across Canada.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and executes a strategic plan and direction for the distribution center which includes but is not limited to budget management, workforce planning, capital expenditure planning, capacity planning for future growth and integrations, and contract negotiations with third parties and freight providers.
  • Collaborate with parent company and other subsidiaries in support of margin acceleration plans and programs (ie. rate share contracts, capacity planning, etc.)
  • Implements/executes programs and initiatives to ensure all key performance indicators (KPIs) are met on a consistent basis such as on time delivery, on budget freight spend, ongoing and accurate records maintenance and cycle counting, customer satisfaction and order accuracy, quality inspections/standards, etc.
  • Oversees annual budget of approximately $11 million which includes labour, leased equipment, private fleet, utilities, shrink wrap, repair and maintenance, freight, etc.

  • Leverages lean management systems (LMS) to ensure efficient operations with ongoing efforts focused on audits, Gemba walks, tier meetings, small K introductions, 5S systems, etc.
  • Encourages and develops a continuous improvement mindset through Kaizen events, leveraging project management resources and planning tools.
  • Leads or participates in strategic imperative projects focused on acquisitions, integrations, and new business initiatives
  • Build and sustain a safety-first culture by developing and training work standards and educating team members on all applicable health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with all related government agencies MTO, MOL, Customs officials.
EDUCATION:
  • Undergraduate degree in Business Communications, Operations, or similar field of study.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Ten or more years related experience required; experience in a similar environment/distribution hub is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading the integration of operations and services which are diverse in nature.
  • Experience in the implementation and management of lean manufacturing systems.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • CITT Certification/Certified Logistics Professional (CCLP) is required.
  • Professional Materials Management (PMM) and Profession of Logistics (PLOG) are preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about. Occasionally required to stop or lift light material or equipment.
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Conditions could produce mild discomfort on occasion, e.g., dust, moderate noise.
  • Regular need to give close attention, either hearing or seeing, to what is happening.
  • Continuous pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands. Unpleasant contacts and/or concern about unpleasant situations are frequent. Moderate disruption of family/social life.
  • Approximately 15% travel to company related or third party vendor locations.
  • Provide on call support 24/7 if required to address customs/shipment issues, spills/safety concerns or incidents, quarter/year end pushes, etc.
BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION:
  • The annual salary for applicants in this position generally ranges between $104,490 - $130,630 plus a 20% bonus potential. This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications, operations, needs, and other considerations permitted by law.
