Job Background & Summary:(This role is a Designated Remote Role on our team - must be based on Vancouver Island)We at Actalent Services are a fast-growing engineering consulting group which expanded to Canada in 2014. A significant part of that growth has come out of our Western Canadian Operations focused on Infrastructure and Utilities projects. To support this growth, we have opened a role for an Distribution Designer (Post Grad Intern) to join our team on a contract for 8 months with opportunity for a full time role on our team after the 8 month Internship term. The selected individual will be a part of our Utilities Division in Canada, with our office in New Westminster, BC.Key activities include liaising with project stakeholders, completing project designs and performing quality assurance functions.The selected individual will join our rapidly growing team delivering projects to a variety of utility clients with a focus on electrical utility infrastructure. We are looking for people that take ownership, are career motivated, well organized and detail oriented with a proven ability to meet deadlines.This role required Drug and Alcohol screening as a pre-employment requirement.Job Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering (with preference to BCIT\'s Power & Industrial Controls Option)
• Willingness and flexible for a minimum of 40%-50% field inspection (within the Vancouver Island Region)
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Proficient using MS Office and AutoCAD software

Considered an asset

• Experience in design of Underground (UG) and/or Overhead (OH) power distribution systems is considered an asset
• Experience using SPIDAcalc, DAD and/or Passport
• Experience in field/site inspection and/or construction

Job Responsibilities

• Design underground and overhead electrical infrastructure according to client and national standards and requirements.
• Use SPIDAcalc non-linear pole line analysis tool to evaluate pole design and create non-standard OH Line design solutions.
• Use of underground cable pulling calculation software to confirm design solutions.
• Use load balancing and fuse coordination software for distribution system improvement projects.
• Provide design for any non-standard/engineered solutions.
• Prepare design packages for review and submission. Packages to be provided for Pole Replacement/Maintenance, LPT/PMT/Livefront, Feeder Design, Smart Meter, Customer Driven 3rd Party Attachments, Automation and other BC Hydro Programs.
• Checking and reviewing work of peers
• Prepare issue for construction packages
• Coordinating with clients, co-workers, subcontractors, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders
• Attend project meetings and conduct site inspections and reviews
• Perform other tasks/responsibilities as assigned by reporting manager
