As a Distribution Centre Supervisor, you will take a hands-on leadership role in overseeing the daily operations of our distribution center with a focus on efficiency, accuracy, and continuous team development. You must thrive in a fast-paced environment, think on your feet, manage multiple competing demands, and lead a team of high-performing individuals with confidence and clarity. This role requires above-average Excel skills, strong analytical capabilities, and a leadership style rooted in accountability and adaptability. You'll be expected to identify problems before they happen, optimize workflows, and eventually own and lead the truck routing and fleet scheduling function.
Responsibilities
Oversee daily operations within the distribution center, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to safety protocols.
Manage and supervise warehouse staff, providing guidance and support to enhance team performance.
Implement process improvements to optimize efficiency and productivity in all areas of warehouse operations.
Utilize ERP systems and warehouse management systems to track inventory, manage orders, and analyze data for continuous improvement.
Coordinate with other departments, including purchasing and customer service, to ensure timely order fulfillment and address any issues that arise.
Conduct regular training sessions for staff on operational procedures, safety standards, and equipment use, including forklift operation.
Monitor performance metrics and develop strategies for improvement in areas such as order picking accuracy, packaging efficiency, and heavy lifting tasks.
Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, shipments, and deliveries while ensuring compliance with company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight - Inbound & Outbound
Supervise all aspects of receiving, picking, packing, shipping, and routing to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.
Monitor and manage daily workflow, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
Ensure inventory accuracy through proper handling, put-away, and replenishment of materials.
Oversee and support the processing of Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMAs).
For second-shift operations, ensure KeyPak trucks are loaded accurately and efficiently.
Team Leadership & Performance Management
Lead and motivate a high-performing team of warehouse associates.
Conduct daily team huddles, regular training, and 1-on-1 coaching sessions.
Manage varying levels of performance with fairness and accountability.
Assist in hiring, onboarding, and cross-training to maintain a flexible and capable workforce.
Support to Distribution Centre Coordinator - Routing & Staff Allocation
Collaborate with the Distribution Centre Coordinator on truck routing, driver dispatching and staffing decisions.
Ensure resources are aligned with priorities and shipping deadlines.
Gradually transition into leading the truck routing responsibilities.
Provide insight into delivery efficiency and route optimization.
Process Improvement & Analytical Support
Analyze operational metrics (order accuracy, on-time shipping, labor utilization) and identify opportunities for improvement.
Leverage Excel expertise to develop tracking tools, reports, and visual dashboards.
Implement SOPs and best practices to sustain and raise operational standards.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce company policies, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
Lead safety inspections and promote a safety-first culture.
Document incidents and support timely follow-up.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Customer Focus
Act as the operations point person for internal teams (transportation, customer service,
procurement).
Ensure smooth shift handoffs and operational continuity.
Support drivers and customers with real-time issue resolution and a commitment to service excellence.
Qualifications:
2+ years in warehouse or distribution operations with supervisory or team leadership experience.
Proven ability to lead in fast-paced, high-volume logistics environments.
Demonstrated ability to manage top performers and support underperformers constructively.
Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, filters, dashboards); analytical and detail oriented.
Experience with routing, fleet scheduling, or dispatching is a strong asset.
Comfortable using WMS systems, RF scanners, forklifts, pallet jacks, reach trucks, or order pickers.
Strong emotional intelligence, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
Forklift certification and ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
