You Have:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 2 years of related experience (i.e., storeroom, logistics, inventory management, shipping, etc.)
Basic computer, data entry, documentation, and reporting skills
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure
Open communication and customer service skills
Flexibility to occasionally be on call outside of normal business hours
Your Purpose:
You will report to the External Logistics Manager. Coordinate the delivery of final products to mill or group of mills by verifying orders; inventorying stock; arranging transportation generally by truck or rail; sometimes via barge. Maintain on-time shipments and minimize backlog of shipments. Support logistics and maintain customer service.
Your Work:
Arranges freight to move material to customers and internal locations using Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and other methods as dictated by necessity including phone and email.
Coordinate between carriers, sales, and warehouse to execute on-time shipments balancing costs and customer service.
Identify/correct order and inventory issues with sales/warehouse and escalate as needed.
Maintain validity of freight costs, correct errors, and confirm or process detention payments.
Populate reports as required.
Schedule carrier appointments in alignment with mill loading schedules and supervised instruction (for example the number of appointments with consideration for crane downtime, pre-load schedules, manpower on the shift, receiving, over-length loads, etc.).
Continue the development of our relationship with the carrier base through effective communication for all parties.
Enter and update necessary information on shipments including delivery comments, prioritization, or special shipping instruction.
May negotiate spot or premium freight rates within limits of authority for local carriers to ensure on time shipments.
Provide Support for Logistics Operations as required.
