Are you looking for a career that can make a difference in lives of residents of Toronto? If so, we are searching for dedicated and passionate individuals to join Toronto Community Housing's Community Safety Unit. This integral unit provides a full range of special constable services in a social setting that supports a community development approach to safety.


As a critical member of our emergency communications team, you'll utilize your expertise and knowledge in this field to contribute to the ongoing efforts of Toronto Community Housing to improve the neighborhoods and lives of residents of Toronto.


We are looking for individuals who can work in a fast paced environment, utilizing their crisis intervention and multi-tasking sills, to assess and respond to telephone calls from the public. You will also dispatch and monitor a team of Special Constables throughout the City of Toronto.

What you'll do



Receive calls from the public, tenants, and stakeholders and determine the appropriate response or referral Provide exceptional customer service to all callers Apply dispatch skills and techniques in a high stress environment, dealing with a variety of call types and emergency situations Initiate Police, Fire and Ambulance response when appropriate Dispatch Special Constables, Community Patrol Officers, Parking Enforcement Officers, and contract Security to TCH sites requiring service Enter available officers into the system and monitor their whereabouts while on duty in the field to ensure effective communication is maintained at all times Record, document and maintain sensitive and confidential information within a law enforcement records management systems Promote customer service in the dispatch center by responding to calls using telephone and two way radio systems; Conduct Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) checks for persons and/or vehicles under investigation; Other related duties as assigned;

What you'll need



Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or academic equivalent (minimum) Post-Secondary education in Law, Public Safety or Emergency Communications is an asset Strong understanding of customer service principles Proven track record delivering a positive customer service experience to all callers Working knowledge of Niche RMS considered an asset Working knowledge of Hexagon CAD considered an asset Ability to input and manipulate data using word processing and spreadsheet software (i.e. Excel and Word) to update and maintain security and dispatch records Accurate and efficient keyboarding skills Experience dealing directly with stakeholders where timeliness of decisions are critical (I.e. In Police, emergency services, logistics field, etc.) is considered an asset Ability to utilize crisis intervention skills to obtain information in emergencies and to dispatch security personnel Demonstrated knowledge of how to operate a telephone switchboard, a two-way radio and communication systems Familiarity with or the ability to learn specific radio call signs and phonic alphabet Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with tenants, police, fire, ambulance, and co-workers Demonstrated judgment to assess situations and respond appropriately Ability to establish priority of responses in a high-volume and time-sensitive environment Good listening skills and a commitment to providing excellent customer service Ability and sensitivity in providing respectful service to a diverse population (age, race, language, gender, sexual orientation, culture and disability) Ability to report detailed information accurately and deal with confidential information Good time management skills Ability to work within a team environment Ability to work varying shifts and flexibility to be re-assigned as necessary Familiarity and the ability to learn the Criminal Code of Canada, Trespass to Property Act, Liquor License Act, Mental Health Act and the Residential Tenancies Act is an asset Possess and maintain full security and police clearance including fingerprinting and personal background checks throughout employment (Further police clearance and Level 4 background checks during the duration of the eligibility list may be required for further consideration).
