Dispatcher (6 Month Contract) Whistler

Job Description

Role purpose:




The Dispatcher is responsible for the real-time coordination and deployment of bus operators and vehicles to ensure the safe, efficient, and on-schedule operation of public transit services, as well as providing customer support and managing transit service communication on various platforms.

This is a part time temporary 6-month seasonal contract Wage is $27 per hour

Knowledge and Experience:




Minimum of 2 years of experience in a dispatcher or similar logistics/operations role. Strong working knowledge of dispatching software and GPS systems. Proven experience in a fast-paced, high-stress environment. Knowledge of local geography and road networks in and around Whistler. Previous work-related experience with social media platforms is required. Previous administrative experience is required.



Skills:



Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities under pressure. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.



Key Accountabilities:




Operational Oversight




Monitor and direct bus movements to maintain service schedules and efficiency. Respond to and manage real-time service disruptions, including detours, breakdowns, and accidents. Communicate with bus operators via radio to provide instructions, updates, and support.



Public Communications and Customer Service




Post alerts and service changes on the BC Transit website and other social media platforms. Investigate and report on service requests and feedback, including passenger complaints. Provide clerical and reception support.



Operator Support and Resource Management



Act as the primary point of contact during emergencies, coordinating with internal teams and external authorities. Document and report all incidents, accidents, and service disruptions accurately and promptly. Allocate resources effectively, including assigning spare vehicles and relief operators as needed. Provide guidance and assistance to bus operators to ensure a safe and successful trip.
