Job Description

Dispatch Manager The Dispatch Manager will be responsible to ensure that all trucking and equipment requirements are successfully delivered to complete our jobs. Responsibilities include working with the dispatch department to ensure the success of scheduling and assigning drivers to routes based on their availability and skill sets, managing issues that arise such as accidents or other emergencies, and ensuring that drivers have the resources they need to handle these situations appropriately.The Dispatch Manager's responsibilities include:

  • Manage all aspects of the dispatching process, including hiring, training, scheduling, monitoring performance, and responding to customer (internal and external) complaints
  • Analyze problem areas that may require additional staff training or equipment upgrades
  • Maintain compliance with current and new laws or regulations set forth by local governments
  • Oversee and supervise daily permit requests
  • Develop and monitor communication techniques to ensure staff members are communicating with each other effectively and efficiently
  • Utilize GPS tracking system in order to manage, trace and locate drivers within their assigned locations
  • Introduce and implement the electronic log books through our GPS system once government enforced
  • Maintain professional relationships with customers and employees via phone, text and email
  • Conduct regular safety and weekly meetings with employees
  • Ensure that all equipment is dispatched accurately, in a timely manner, to ensure schedules are followed and driver/equipment efficiency is achieved
  • Oversee the coordination of repairs, maintenance, and safeties with Shop Manager to ensure that downtime is minimized, or spare trucks are available.
  • Standardize all dispatch service procedures and standards (safety, quality, consistency, accuracy and speed of service).
  • Develop and manage KPIs to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and maximize use of workforce
  • Develop and analyze performance statistics in dispatch team and recommend and implement business process improvements
  • Act as dispatch prime to prepare for and execute on high call volume mitigation plans, including managing or providing 24/7 support for road service team, and service contracts
  • Coach, mentor and develop supervisory leadership team to promote a high-performance culture
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline is considered an asset
  • Supply chain/Transportation designation is also considered an asset
  • 5+ years of prior experience in managing/supervising a dispatch or towing operation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks
  • Previous KPI implementation, planning and scheduling experience
  • Familiar with trucking rules, regulations, and requirements
  • Must be multitask oriented and have excellent problem-solving skills, as well as proactive management skills.
  • Proficient in Windows Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and a transportation management system
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule and overtime if the demand arises
  • Experience in a 7-day operation, preferably in the construction/transportation industry
