The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards for all dishes, glassware, tableware, cooking utensils, and kitchen equipment. This role is crucial to the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen and the restaurant as a whole, especially during peak business hours. The ideal candidate is reliable, physically fit, detail-oriented, and a strong team player.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Dishwashing and Sanitation:
Load, run, and unload the commercial dishwashing machine.
Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans by machine and/or by hand, ensuring all items meet health and safety standards.
Monitor the dish machine's temperature and chemical levels to ensure an effective, sanitary wash cycle.
Place clean dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment in designated storage areas neatly and efficiently.
Cleanliness and Organization:
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe dishwashing station and kitchen area throughout the shift.
Sweep and mop floors, paying special attention to spills and maintaining a dry work area to prevent accidents.
Remove trash, recycling, and cardboard boxes from the kitchen and bar areas, transporting them to the dumpster/designated disposal area.
Clean and sanitize kitchen appliances, work surfaces, and food preparation areas as instructed by the Kitchen Manager or Chef.
Support and Assistance:
Assist with basic food preparation tasks (e.g., washing and peeling vegetables, portioning ingredients) as needed.
Assist with the unloading and proper storage of food and supply deliveries.
Buss tables and collect soiled dishes from the dining room/bar area when required.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Manager-on-Duty.
Safety and Maintenance:
Adhere strictly to all food safety and sanitation procedures and regulations.
Report any functional or mechanical problems with the dish machine or other equipment immediately to management.
Handle all glassware and china carefully to minimize breakage and loss.
Qualifications and Requirements
Experience:
Previous experience as a dishwasher or in a high-volume kitchen environment is a plus, but not required (will train motivated candidates).
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 40-50 pounds.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with exposure to heat, cold temperatures, and cleaning chemicals (with required protective gear).
Skills & Attributes:
Strong work ethic and reliability.
Ability to work quickly and efficiently, especially during rushes.
Attention to detail regarding cleanliness and sanitation.
High level of team spirit and the ability to work cooperatively with kitchen and front-of-house staff.
Willingness to follow instructions and safety procedures.
