Roots Kitchen & Bar is Harbour Landing Village's full-service restaurant and community gathering space, offering locally inspired, made-from-scratch meals to residents, guests, and the public. As part of the Food & Beverage Department, the Dishwasher plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment that supports high-quality food service and operational efficiency.
The Dishwasher is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing dishes, kitchen equipment, and work areas while assisting the culinary team with deliveries, prep, and overall kitchen organization. This position requires reliability, attention to detail, and teamwork to ensure a smooth, safe, and efficient back-of-house operation.
Key Responsibilities
Dishwashing & Sanitation:
Wash, rinse, and sanitize all dishes, utensils, glassware, cookware, and equipment following established food safety and sanitation procedures.
Kitchen Cleanliness:
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, dish area, and storage spaces to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
Equipment Cleaning:
Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, including deep fryers, exhaust hoods, prep surfaces, and dishwashing machines as scheduled.
Waste Management:
Remove garbage, recycling, compostable waste, and cardboard regularly to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Inventory & Deliveries:
Assist with receiving and putting away deliveries, ensuring proper rotation (FIFO) and storage of supplies and ingredients.
Team Support:
Provide assistance to cooks and kitchen staff with general prep work, portioning, restocking, and other operational needs during busy periods.
Safety & Compliance:
Follow all workplace safety, WHMIS, and food handling regulations. Report any hazards, maintenance needs, or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor immediately.
Deep Cleaning:
Participate in scheduled deep cleaning tasks, including floors, walls, drains, and high-use kitchen areas.
Professionalism & Teamwork:
Maintain a positive, respectful attitude and work collaboratively with the culinary team to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
Additional Duties:
Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall success of Roots Kitchen & Bar and the Food & Beverage Department.
Skills, Qualification, & Requirements
Valid Food Safety and WHMIS certifications required
Previous dishwashing or kitchen experience preferred; willing to train motivated candidates
Understanding of safe food handling, sanitation, and WHMIS procedures
Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team
Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and organization
Physically capable of standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs
Flexible, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and support team operations
