Ready to build your career? We want to hear from you.
The Geotechnics and Materials Discipline Lead acts as a subject matter expert on specific projects. Their involvement spans both development phases (Pre-Construction and Tender) and execution phases. During Pre-Construction, the Discipline Lead collaborates on the design strategy related to their discipline within the design management or bid team. They actively contribute to concept development with the consultant and the specialized subcontractor (if selected), fostering synergy between design and construction teams. Their role ensures that the design and associated costs are optimized according to client requirements while maintaining compliance.
The Discipline Lead is also involved in defining material requirements and material testing needs, as well as in selecting laboratories responsible for on-site testing and monitoring. After contract award, they continue to participate as needed until design completion, ensuring that guidelines and concepts are respected and implemented. During execution, the Discipline Lead may also provide technical advice from time to time on various design or construction issues that may arise on projects in which Pomerleau is involved.

Participate in discussions regarding the execution strategy developed by the construction team for carrying out the discipline-related work.
Collaborate with the consultant and the discipline-related subcontractor (the "specialized subcontractor"), if selected, to develop effective concepts and alternative solutions that comply with client requirements.
During design development, optimize the design within established objectives to ensure constructability, identify discrepancies between design and construction, and assist in resolving them.
Maintain close coordination with the estimating team regarding discipline-related work to ensure the specialized subcontractor's pricing is valid.

Ensure communication and information exchange between the consultant and the construction team, particularly with the specialized subcontractor involved in the discipline.
Actively participate in the estimating process to develop the most efficient solutions.
If necessary, attend design sessions with the client and clarify technical questions, including through Requests for Information (RFIs).
Develop and implement design review procedures to ensure quality and compliance with client requirements and applicable standards.
Participate in risk identification and mitigation measures related to the discipline.
