Job Description

Located in the south-central region of B.C., the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) covers an area over 10,400 km2 and is renowned for its orchards, vineyards and golf courses, as well as its widely varied landscape including deserts, mountains and valleys, pristine lakes and outdoor recreational opportunities.



The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, in collaboration with its regional partners, is currently recruiting for a temporary, full-time

Disaster Risk Planning Assistant

to join the Protective Services team. The Disaster Risk Planning Assistantsupports data collection, cost tracking, analysis and report writing in order to engage the public, partner organizations and elected officials.


Key Responsibilities:




Prepares and reviews documentation related to the HRVA project. Responds to inquiries from community groups, partner organizations, and the public. Liaises with various partners and supports committee, the Board of Directors and Council meetings as required. Creates written reports for delivery to committees, Board, Councils, and other Project Partners (e.g. municipal and First Nation Partners, and subject matter experts). Drafts public notifications and media releases, potentially within short time frames. Supports project expenditure tracking and invoicing processes. Assists the Disaster Risk Planner in organizing and facilitating meetings and public education events. Assists the Disaster Risk Planner in the analysis of collected HRVA data. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:




Certificate from an accredited institution in a related field, supplemented by course work or experience in project management, facilitation support and/or event planning. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related role, preferably in a local/regional government setting Knowledge of legislation as it relates to emergency management. Working knowledge of project delivery including document preparation, analysis and reporting functions. Strong ability to deliver educational messages to the public and committees. Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word and Excel). Experience with Canva is considered an asset. Ability to work independently and efficiently with limited supervision. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact in a courteous and tactful manner. Strong verbal and written communication skills to support and deliver presentations. Ability to work on a number of concurrent tasks with deadline pressures. Excellent time management and organizational skills and ownership of project tasks and role responsibilities. Strong teamwork and communication skills with ability to work with diverse groups. Analytical and detail-oriented with a keen focus on producing accurate and high caliber work. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required. Ability to pass and maintain a criminal record check. Valid BC Driver's Licence.




This temporary (grant funding dependent), full-time position is included in the BCGEU bargaining unit. The 2026 wage for this position is $36.52 per hour plus an excellent benefits package.
