About the team



The Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation Disability Services team provides day-to-day administration for the Teachers' Long Term Disability Plan and rehabilitation back-to-work services to teachers.


What you'll do



The Disability Case Coordinator provides sensitive, empathetic, and confidential service to members of the Teachers' Long-Term Disability Plan (LTD). This position supports the day-to-day administration of disability claims, including preparing and processing benefit calculations, managing claim changes and continuation, and providing accurate information about plan provisions to members of the plan.


Responsibilities include:


Provide prompt and courteous service by dealing sensitively and empathetically with claimants, family members and/or representative of deceased claimants. Manage the day-to-day administration of disability claims, including reviewing claim submission, preparing benefit calculations, and processing claim changes accurately and effectively. Provide clear and accurate information to plan members regarding their disability benefits, plan provisions, eligibility criteria and claim status. Respond to inquiries and provide technical explanations as needed. Provide prompt and courteous service to plan members or their agents and senior administrative staff by addressing their inquiries, concerns, and requests in a timely, empathetic, and professional manner. Maintain a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity to members' privacy. Provide administrative support to the case management team by processing incoming medical reports and correspondence, and by requesting and coordinating assessment reports. Facilitate communication between the disability case managers, healthcare providers, and members on the LTD plan in a timely and confidential manner. Review new applications to confirm member's eligibility to apply for benefits and completion of documentation. Prepare new claim applications for peer review by entering new claims data, calculating benefit, and printing reports. Update LTD claims administration system with approval dates, reminders, and notes. Communicate to claimants up for review, through written correspondence and verbally, results of adjudication including approval period, expectations, and requirements for further review. Prepare review reminder letters to claimants for peer review. Calculate changes to disability benefits as well as offsets to disability benefits from various sources (partial benefits, overpayments, rehabilitation earnings, odd days lost and income from other sources). Monitor CPP application status of claimants and receipt of CPP 1618 forms, following up with claimants when appropriate.



What you'll bring




A one-year certificate or diploma from a recognized business college, plus 1-2 years of benefits administration experience, preferably in disability claims administration. Preference will be given to candidates who are enrolled in or have completed a Group Benefits Associate (GBA) designation. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. Demonstrated initiative in undertaking assignments and completing work within strict timelines is a definite requirement. Established analytical and mathematical skills. Demonstrated word processing, Excel and computer skills. Proven effective client service, interpersonal and public relations skills. Mature judgement, particularly related to recognizing the consequences of providing inaccurate or incomplete information. Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information clearly and empathetically. A dedication to information accuracy, completeness and confidentiality in work. A good working knowledge of office procedures and practices. Organizational and time-management skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
