The salary range for this position is:

  • Recruitment range: $115,274 - $144,093 maximum starting salary is determined through knowledge, experience and internal equity.
  • Performance range: $165,707 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
Mandate / core purpose of role:
Provide senior leadership for Wellness, Recreation & Athletics (WRAD) operations, facilities, infrastructure, and capital planning to ensure safe, reliable, and financially sustainable environments for student recreation and varsity competition. Shape operational culture and priorities as part of WRAD's senior leadership team; align systems, budgets, and renewal cycles to divisional strategy; and act for the Executive Director as required.
Objectives:
  • Build and execute a multi-year capital and renewal plan aligned to WRAD strategy and budget.
  • Maintain facilities to required standards for safety, service excellence, and varsity eligibility; meet regulatory and risk expectations
  • Strengthen financial governance: optimize operating budgets and reserves; improve reporting cadence and variance management.
  • Implement priority systems/procurements and integrations that improve scheduling, operations, and financial controls
  • Lead transparent facility allocation processes; negotiate/refresh use agreements with internal users and community partners.
  • Identify and secure funding for infrastructure and renewal (grants, partnerships, philanthropy).
  • Grow a service-focused, intrapreneurial culture; coach leaders and staff; embed equity, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Represent WRAD on pan-university initiatives (policy, procurement, safety/risk, systems, strategic planning) and respond to Internal Audit recommendations.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience
  • Master's degree in sport/recreation, business, project management, engineering, or related field (or equivalent combination).
  • Minimum 5 years' leadership experience in a high-performance sport, community recreation, or comparable setting; capital planning/project delivery; facilities operations in a complex, unionized environment preferred.
  • Proven financial stewardship (budgets, reserves, internal controls, reporting), systems implementation, and policy/process review leading to measurable improvements.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong communicator; that uses clear, plain-language writing and succinct briefings; strong presenter tailored to varied audiences.
  • Relationship building and political acuity; influences without authority and navigates complex settings with tact.
  • Financial stewardship - budgets, reserves, variance analysis, and sound, data-informed decisions.
  • Negotiation and conflict resolution; aligns diverse stakeholders to workable agreements.
  • Ability to lead change and sustain adoption of new practices/systems.
  • Ability to interpret budgets and analyze variances; make data-informed decisions and apply internal controls.
  • Ability to embed equity, accessibility, and inclusion in decisions and operations.
Preferred/Assets
  • Success leading pan-institutional projects with senior facilities/systems, academic, and student affairs partners.
  • Experience guiding teams through change; labor-relations awareness; stakeholder negotiation and consensus-building.
