About the Role:
Vancouver Radio, 980 CKNW is looking for a Director, Talk & Talent for a 12-month contract based out of Vancouver. While reporting to the National Director of Talk Radio, this position is also expected to be a team player collaborating with leaders of other departments including, but not limited to Global News, sales, marketing, traffic, and digital. The successful candidate will have experience with the News Talk format, be a solid talent coach, compelling content developer, innovative marketer and strategic thinker who is sales friendly.

You\'ll be working on things like:

• Recruit, develop and coach talent
• Create and execute programming and market strategies
• Responsible for the overall brand on-air and in the market
• Working with sales on revenue generation
• Direction of on-air products in keeping with the overall strategic objectives of the division
• Develop annual business plans, strategic programming plan for the station and shows, execute budget planning and be accountable for executing the plans
• Increase share, average minute audience and rank for A35-65 and secondarily A25-54

• Post-secondary education in Broadcasting, Communications, Journalism or another relatable field preferred
• Strong work ethic with an ability to implement detailed strategic operating plans in collaboration with multiple departments
• Knowledge and appreciation of sales and revenue development and the need to collaborate with sales department to achieve financial targets
• Proven leadership/management experience, a positive, charismatic, and motivating leader who is ready to inspire a team
• A keen understanding of and passion for the big news stories of the day
• Ability to teach others how to build angles and add context to help drive and evolve the stories through the day
• Proven track record in working with a team of experienced radio personnel
• Ratings (Numeris) knowledge essential to drive opportunities for listener growth
• Working knowledge of Vancouver and surrounding communities would be considered a bonus
• Creative problem solver
• Relationship builder both inside the organization and in the community
• Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and work well under pressure within a rapidly changing environment
• A positive, friendly manner and customer service approach that will enable the successful candidate to deal with challenging situations with empathy and sincerity
