The Opportunity

We are seeking a Director, Supply Chain and Strategic Sourcing to lead the development and delivery of a comprehensive Integrated Supply Chain service for IWK, ensuring an alignment between strategic and operational planning and excellence in client relations. Responsibilities include leading the entire centre-wide supply chain operations, including the acquisition of supplies, services, and construction/equipment in support of the IWK\'s business, as well as supplies inventory, receiving and distribution management, laundry services and mail room operations.
The Director is responsible for leading:

  • the development and delivery of purchasing approximately $60-80 million dollars annually in goods, services and equipment which support patient care and safety
  • warehousing operations processing 100,000+ orders annually
  • a logistics network spanning all IWK campuses
  • sustainability and improvement in service delivery quality and value relationship management with key stakeholders - care leaders, Nova Scotia Health (NSH) and various partners (e.g., Internal Service Department (ISD), vendors, etc.).
The Director is committed to a high standard of service and will lead using a \xe2\x80\x9cpeople and client first\xe2\x80\x9d approach to support current and emerging technologies and practices to establish a robust people focused and service excellence culture across the province.
The Director will engage in evidence based strategic planning and risk management related to the buying, distributing and all supply logistics management. Ensures that products purchased, warehoused and delivered are healthcare products and services which support safe and quality care delivery to our patients.

The Director is committed to a high standard of performance and will provide day to day strategic sourcing and supply chain expertise and support across the organization. The impact of performance of this position affects all areas of IWK Health, including direct patient care, and can affect funding and/or provision of service.

The Director provides strategic leadership to the Strategic Sourcing and Supply Chain team focusing on prioritization, continual performance improvement, change management, and staff development and coaching. This role is always learning and seeking ways to make things better. You are a leader that focuses on inclusion, excellence, accountability and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The Director is expected to understand the science and art of leadership, to inspire, create, and exhibit the tone at the top. You will build solid business relationships, build engagement, and achieve success through the success of others.

Hours of Work

Monday - Friday, 75 hours bi-weekly. Participation in On-call coverage required.

Your Qualifications
  • Master\'s degree in a related discipline (such as Business Administration, Engineering, Science). or willingness to obtain within 5 years.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience with overseeing the supply chain activities of which a minimum of three (3) years must be in a leadership role
  • Recognized Professional Supply Chain Designation (e.g., Certified, Supply Chain Management Professional, etc.) is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships
  • LEAN certification is an asset
  • Certified Health Executive is an asset
  • Acute healthcare sector experience is considered an asset
