SCOPE
Reporting to the Senior Director, Strategic Planning and Faculty Operations, the incumbent, in collaboration with the leadership team, the incumbent will lead the development of the vision, mission and strategic plan for the unit and oversee the implementation of strategies to help meet Faculty of Arts and Science's undergraduate enrolment goals through sustainable approaches, including recruitment, admission, registration and retention. This will also include the review and implementation of a new operational structure for the Unit.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development, coordination, and implementation of recruitment and retention strategies and programs at the undergraduate level.
  • Review available recruitment/enrolment data as well as conduct and/or oversee recruitment/enrolment market research in support of recruitment and retention efforts. Collaborate with department heads to review program and registration trends and costs.
  • Hire, direct, and supervise staff in the Student Academic Services (SAS) unit. Identify training needs and introduce professional development opportunities in support of the needs of the Unit.
  • Assess all SEM related issues such as recruitment, admissions, readmissions, enrolment, scheduling, registration and retention processes.
  • Recommend and manage a budget for the unit and ensure that expenses stay within established limits.
  • Maintain functional liaison and foster collaboration with other Faculties, the Office of the Registrar and other internal and external partners with a view to help meet the University's enrolment goals.
  • Manage student awards, selection of valedictorians, graduation medals and Dean's list. Address and manage student complaints.
  • Represent the Office of the Dean on various committees and working groups.
  • Undertake other related duties assigned by the Dean or Senior Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce or Business Administration or in a field related to the primary responsibilities and more than seven years of work-related experience in a strategic role with leadership responsibility within a university setting, with a strong track record of driving institutional goals and fostering academic and operational excellence.
  • Graduate Degree is an asset.
  • Must have a minimum of four years in a supervisory capacity having led academic support teams and faculty committees, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Skilled in managing academic operations, coordinating cross-departmental initiatives, and enhancing student success through evidence-based strategies. Demonstrated success in mentoring staff, managing performance, and driving professional development to support institutional excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives, and manage complex projects aligned with the university's mission and vision.
  • Knowledge of and preferably experience working with recruitment, admissions and academic policies and procedure issues, and enrolment management strategies.
  • Prior experience in applying and overseeing HR policies, procedures, and collective agreements, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and fostering a compliant and supportive work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills with demonstrated public speaking/presentation abilities.
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational, and strong data-driven decision-making skills, coupled with the ability to establish and respond to priorities in a fast-paced results-oriented setting.
  • Very good knowledge (Level 5) of spoken and written English in order to communicate effectively and to draft correspondence, documentation, and reports. Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written French.
  • Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Word, Excel and PowerPoint in order to create and format various documents and spreadsheets, use financial functions in the analysis of data, prepare reports and presentations, etc.
  • Self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to motivate people.
  • Proven team leader and team builder, with the ability to foster a culture of inclusion and a positive team environment.
  • Knowledge of Faculty of Arts and Science (FAS) undergraduate programs is an asset.
  • Knowledge of undergraduate programs across Canada is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with SIS is an asset.
