This position is negotiable in the following locations: Calgary, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, or Red Deer, dependent on candidate selection. AHS is seeking an experienced public safety leader to provide vision, direction and strategic leadership for Protective Services (PS) resources within the South Sector. In this role, you\'ll make a significant impact on the security, safety, and overall experience of physicians, staff, employees, patients and families in AHS facilities across the South Sector. As the Director, you will be responsible to recruit, hire, motivate, and lead a diverse team of professionals, promoting a culture of positivity, support, inclusion, and professional growth. As a key member of the provincial PS leadership team, you will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and leaders both internally and externally to AHS. As Director, you will manage human, financial, and physical resources within a large environment. Your role will be responsible for ensuring your teams are provided with the appropriate resources and supports to ensure a continued safe working environment. This position is responsible for a large geographical area in Alberta, and there will be times when significant travel within those areas is required.

Description:

The Director, South Sector - Community & Rural Operations, is a key leadership role in the Protective Services program, reporting directly to the Executive Director - South Sector. This position is responsible and accountable for providing leadership to operational protective services staff, and for the overall security of AHS staff, patients, visitors and assets within the South Sector Rural & Community (Central, Calgary and South Zones). You will act as a role model, establishing a culture of service and performance excellence for operational standards within Protective Services. The Director for South Sector - Community & Rural will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and leaders in order to provide operational leadership and oversee all related programs and services. The person in this role requires expert judgment and experience to provide innovative solutions, advice and direction to clients within assigned zones on the specialty functions provided by Protective Services, while at the same time contributing to the development of best practices as a whole. Effective written and verbal communication along with strong organizational skills and the ability to gain commitment from others towards organizational goals will be essential to your success. The Director, South Sector - Community & Rural for Protective Services is also responsible for maintaining multiple budgets within their scope of accountability, as well as for liaising with all relevant leadership within Protective Services to ensure adherence to all internal standards and procedures, such as investigations, training, fire and life safety codes, and financial reconciliations.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of two years\' post-secondary education or equivalent of (seven to ten years) supervisory or management experience within in a related public safety field. High level public speaking and written communication capabilities. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development.
Additional Required Qualifications:

Proven multi-tasking and effective decision-making abilities in a fast paced, stressful environment. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills and ability to effectively gain commitment from others. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Demonstrated ability to manage change and to create innovative solutions to complex or diverse issues. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment. Proven ability to lead strategic planning and foster partnerships to achieve organizational goals and ideally managing performance within a unionized sector. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Class 5 driver\'s license or non GDL.
Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) designation. Certified Protection Professional (CPP). Security Management Certificate or equivalent public safety related certification. Management or progressive leadership experience in healthcare security within the last 10 years.
