Position Overview: Driven by a focused vision of safety, customer satisfaction, developing people, mine site productivity, and lowest cost per ton, this position is responsible for the shared success of Finning and our customers. With a focus on improving the performance of Caterpillar Mining Products, you will lead your team to execute on strategic initiatives and improvement projects to improve productivity and reduce the overall cost per ton at key Western Canada customer sites. In addition, you\xe2\x80\x99ll have the opportunity to shape the global best practice and standards in this area, ensuring Finning delivers the best possible outcomes in all our regions.

This role has a dual reporting structure: to the Vice President of Mining, and in partnership with the Productivity and Safety Solutions team, a global Centre of Excellence (CoE).

Strategic Leadership (55%)

  • Co-develop with Global Productivity & Safety Solutions team (\xe2\x80\x9cCoE\xe2\x80\x9d) to ensure strategic alignment and development of project charter with robust governance framework, to target root causes and improve specific, measurable performance metrics with clear timelines \xe2\x80\x93 25%
  • Leverage key customer relationships through account teams to identify gaps and scope opportunities in customer strategy which are impacting performance \xe2\x80\x93 10%
  • Develop robust governance frameworks for each client and leverage senior leadership team to ensure client engagement on project execution \xe2\x80\x93 10%
  • Use persuasion, influence and communication skills to achieve project buy-in and develop strong relationships with client \xe2\x80\x93 5%
  • Represent Finning team at client governance and present technical information as required \xe2\x80\x93 5%
Team Leadership (45%)
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to a team of technical experts supporting several key client sites across Western Canada \xe2\x80\x93 25%
  • Review technical analysis and engage team to produce solutions and recommendations based on project charter in a broad range of areas including but not limited to: Mine maintenance strategy & execution, equipment management, operations, comprehensive site assessments, fleet management, dispatch optimization, sustainability. \xe2\x80\x93 10%
  • Ensure succession planning & recruitment focus for highly specialized and skilled positions \xe2\x80\x93 5%
  • Ensure training and competency requirements are met, adequately maintained and refreshed as documented in the SPM competency framework and any other CoE standards \xe2\x80\x93 5%
Accountability:
  • Partner with Productivity and Safety Solutions team (the \xe2\x80\x9cCoE\xe2\x80\x9d) to develop strategic, executable and fully aligned project charter with robust governance framework to target root causes and improve specific, measurable performance metrics with clear timelines
  • Provide day to day leadership, coaching, and direction to a team of technical experts supporting several key client sites across Western Canada
  • Represent Finning with clients and maintain positive relationships
  • Collaborate with the client to clearly diagnose their root causes and develop problem statement
  • Produce clear project scope, charter, project strategy and review with client, following global CoE standards.
  • Ensure succession planning and adequate recruitment for highly specialized positions.
  • Represent Finning team at client governance and present technical information as required
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership role, with evidence of motivating teams, identifying gaps in operations and providing solutions
  • Post-secondary education in fields such as: Engineering, Business Administration, Data Science, Finance or equivalent
OR
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in mining operations with an in-depth knowledge of mobile maintenance strategies and procedures
  • Confident interfacing and presenting information as the key point of contact with varying levels of client seniority
  • Strong leadership & communication skills
  • Proven problem solver who can deliver on all project phases without direct supervision
  • Experienced with various office programs MS Project, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the business unit to take specific actions
Additional Skills
  • MBA or equivalent would be considered an asset
  • Direct Mine Operations experience on-site would be considered a strong asset
  • Consulting experience would be considered an asset
  • Maintenance and/or technician experience on a heavy equipment fleet would be an asset
