What You’ll Be Doing
The Director, Segment & Engagement Marketing, has accountability to lead CIBC’s strategic segment marketing program as well as engagement marketing programs.
On segment marketing you will lead the design, development and marketing communications planning of all components of CIBC’s strategic segment marketing. The role includes influencing product specific plans against segments as well as developing segment driving marketing plans Segments include, but are not limited to: newcomers to Canada, post secondary students, the inclusive segment and group banking. You will be accountable for the end to end strategic marketing planning and delivery of the segment plans.
On engagement marketing you will be responsible for client lifecycle engagement marketing programs. Engagement marketing communications are driven by client behavior and lifecycle ‘moments’ where deepening client relationships are possible. You will also be responsible to design and implement program to grow CIBC’s marketing reach within it’s client base, expanding the number of clients that are available to receive marketing communications.
These segment & engagement marketing programs will encompass multiple products and services, and run across multiple internal and external distribution channels. The position is responsible for ongoing understanding of the evolving banking needs of clients as well as prospective clients and designing innovative marketing programs to meet those needs.
The Director, Segment & Engagement Marketing reports to the Vice President, Brand and Advertising and is supported by a team of approximately 7 direct reports.
How You’ll Succeed

  • Strategic Vision – You will develop and implement strategic plans that align with CIBC’s overall strategies and support CIBC’s purpose and brand. You will monitor industry, consumer, competitive and regulatory trends and assess the strategic impact and implications on segment & engagement marketing. You will identify and assess strategic and tactical opportunities to cost effectively achieve identified business results and targets. Additionally, you will recommend new strategies, strategic enhancements to the offer, innovative marketing programs and process and operational enhancements to support adoption, purchase and usage across channels.
  • Marketing Mastery– You have a deep understanding of consumer insights and the ability to turn these insights into actionable plans. Working with creative, media and direct agencies and specialty partners you will design and execute innovative marketing communication programs to promote CIBC products and acquire new clients.
  • Results Oriented – You will monitor program results against plan objectives and ensure post analyses are completed to apply key learnings on a go forward basis.
  • Leadership – You will directly manage, develop and retain highly motivated employees who are passionate about creating innovative marketing programs based on client needs and who are committed to CIBC’s values of trust, teamwork and accountability. You will be accountable to create and promote a positive work environment that encourages initiative, continuous improvement, learning and the generation of new ideas and solutions. You will provide leadership and influence partner commitment across the CIBC organization to Segment & Engagement Marketing. You will lead regular contact with CIBC peers, Senior Directors, Executives, vendors and other employees across the CIBC organization to discuss business needs and opportunities, and to facilitate decision making and program development. You will manage a budget and effectively leverage the budget to cost-effectively enable and support approved initiatives and business objectives.
