Reporting to the AVP of Security Operations, the Director of Security Engineering will be accountable for the delivery and implementation of security technology that supports the overall Information Security (InfoSec) program. (S)he will participate in the execution and implementation of the Sun Life Cyber Security program. This includes working with the Security Strategy and Architecture teams to develop an investment plan to further improve threat protection and compliance, as well as the development of processes, procedures, capabilities and services, oversight and management of third party security services vendors, and the execution of security projects; from inception to completion across all Sun Life regions. You will also manage and direct the Security Engineering team and inspire stellar performance, improve established service levels, maintain a continuous improvement program for operational efficiencies and develop team capabilities and technical competencies with the objective of ensuring a high performing team culture.

Qualifications:
  • University degree/college diploma in related discipline(s) or equivalent work experience, and/or 12+ years in security IT industry experience
  • Professional designation in IT security management (such as CISM, CISSP, CISA) preferred
  • Familiar with Cyber Security frameworks (NIST, MITRE) and security tools and services.
  • Work experience in Financial Industry preferred but not essential.
Responsibilities:
  • Advance the Cyber Security capabilities and protection mechanisms for the company.
  • Provide leadership and direction to team in product management and project delivery to assist in driving out consultative requests, project deliverables, prioritizing actions, assisting with overcoming obstacles that arise through the lifetime of the project, weighing out security risks and ensuring that sufficient security controls as well as audit controls are in place for on-going operations.
  • Provide subject matter expertise enabling management to adequately protect against internal and external threats in accordance with industry accepted standards and relevant legislation. This involves working directly with the Business Unit Compliance Officers, Privacy, and Audit.
  • Advise the AVP of Security Operations and the Chief Security Officer on security direction and resource investments and design appropriate services and mitigating capabilities to manage information security risk.
  • Drive Security Technology enhancements through tool/capability acquisitions and enhancements, strengthening automation proficiency and providing our end users actionable data.
  • Develop plans to smoothly transition and operationalize each project as the implementation phase ends. This includes developing roles & responsibilities documents and educating the teams who will be taking over the day-to-day work.
  • Provides leadership and supports wider Security Operations organization.
  • Develop plans to support product management life cycle based on Sun Life\xe2\x80\x99s security strategy.
  • Provide leadership in adopting new ways of working supporting Sun Life\xe2\x80\x99s digital enterprise transformation.
  • Communicate project deliverables, status, and escalations to the executive level in partnership with the Security Initiatives team through appropriate reporting mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with Architecture, Infrastructure, and other business stakeholders globally to ensure that security is integrated and deployed appropriately into all technology solutions.
  • Oversee budgets, resource allocations, processes; and monitors financial performance of all assigned projects.
  • Provide updates and report on in-flight projects in addition to thought leadership, best practices sharing and skills development.
  • Balance the demands of the policy setters against the implementation barriers (e.g., available technology, integration and cost barriers) and implement solutions that are cost-effective, yet meet business requirements.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
