The Director will lead a team of data professionals, working collaboratively with risk, technology, and business stakeholders to design, implement and continuously improve a robust risk data ecosystem to support effective portfolio management practices, regulatory compliance, and business decision-makingIs this role right for you? In this role, you will:Data Governance and QualityImplements controls in adherence to the Policies, Standards related regulations and procedures for risk dataImplement data quality controls and monitoring mechanisms to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of risk dataManage data lineage, metadata, and data dictionaries to ensure traceability and understanding of risk dataManage data quality issue management processes to ensure proper risk data-related issues identification, monitoring and resolutionChampion a culture of data quality and data-driven decision making across the organizationData Management and InfrastructureOversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of risk data infrastructure, including databases, data warehouses, and data lakesCollaborate with technology teams to ensure systems and infrastructure support the requirements of the risk data functionTeam Leadership and ManagementRecruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of risk data professionalsFoster a collaborative and innovative team environmentSet performance objectives, conduct performance evaluations, and provide feedbackProject ManagementManage risk data related projects from inception to completionDevelop project plans, monitor progress, and address issuesStakeholder Management and CollaborationBuild and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization, including risk, compliance, technology, and business unitsCollaborate with stakeholders to define their data needs, categorize data based on criticality and ensure the risk data function delivers valueRegulatory ComplianceEnsure compliance with all relevant regulatory data management requirements in CanadaInnovation and Continuous ImprovementIdentify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the risk data function.Explore new technologies and data methodologies to improve data quality, analytics capabilities, and overall performanceDo you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Business, or a related field; Master's degree preferredSignificant years of progressive experience in data governance management, risk management, or a related field within the financial services industryDemonstrated experience in a leadership role, managing a team of data professionalsIn-depth knowledge of risk management principles, practices, and methodologiesExperience in developing and implementing data governance policies and proceduresStrong understanding of data governance principles, data quality management, and data architectureExperience with agile development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban)Proficiency with data management tools and technologies (e.g., SQL, databases, data warehouses, data lakes, data visualization software)Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skillsStrong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skillsExcellent leadership, collaboration, strategic thinking and influencing skillsKnowledge of Canadian financial regulations and compliance requirements (e.g., OSFI guidelines, Basel accords)Experience with cloud-based data platforms is an assetComfortability working in a hybrid work environmentLocation(s): Canada : Ontario : TorontoScotiabank is a leading bank in the Americas.
