The Director, Project Controls is a leadership role accountable for developing, implementing, and overseeing integrated project controls. This includes cost management, schedule development, change and risk control, progress measurement, reporting, and governance. Serves as a key advisor to senior leadership, ensuring project performance is monitored, reported and managed with transparency, precision, and agility.

The Director will lead a team to support the successful delivery of the Rook I Project through construction and into commissioning, ensuring alignment with budget, scope, and schedule.

Key Responsibilities





Lead the Project Controls function across all facets of the Rook I Project lifecycle (construction, commissioning, and transition to operations). Build, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of cost controllers, planners, schedulers, and reporting analysts. Champion a culture of performance, accountability, and continuous improvement. Develop and maintain robust cost controls, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and cost risk assessments. Oversee the ongoing development and maintenance of an integrated master schedule, including critical path analysis and progress tracking. Implement earned value management (EVM) and performance baselining to measure project progress and productivity. Establish and enforce effective change management practices and governance to monitor, assess, and control scope, cost, and schedule changes. Identify and mitigate schedule and cost risks through quantitative and qualitative risk analysis. Support claims management and contract compliance. Drive the development of internal and external reporting frameworks, dashboards, and KPIs to ensure clear visibility of project performance. Interface regularly with project leadership, finance, engineering, and construction to align cost and schedule forecasts. Oversee implementation and integration of project controls systems. Support project audits, stage gate reviews, and independent assurance processes. Ensure alignment of project controls practices with NexGen's Integrated Management System and regulatory requirements. Serve as a key member of the project leadership team, influencing strategic and operational decision-making.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise





Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or a related field. A professional designation (P.Eng., PMP, CPA) is preferred. 15+ years of progressive experience in project controls within the mining, energy, or major capital project sector. Proven experience overseeing multi-disciplinary teams on large-scale projects (ideally >$1,000M). Deep knowledge of project controls methodologies and tools (Primavera P6, SAP, Omega 365, Power BI). Experience in Integrated Project Team environments with responsibility for oversight of EPCM and contractor performance. Strong financial and analytical acumen with an ability to distill complex data into clear insights. Excellent leadership, collaboration, and communication skills. Experience working in regulated environments or with permitting/licensing agencies (e.g., CNSC) is an asset.
