UCH is looking for a full time
Director, Operations (Construction Field Installations)
position. This position requires frequent travel throughout the Lower Mainland (Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam), as well as occasional travel within other parts of British Columbia.
WHAT'S THE JOB ABOUT?
Reporting to the Managing Director, B.C., the Director, Operations (Construction Field Installations) position is responsible to oversees the overall installations process of doors and hardware in Western Canada for project such as healthcare, commercial, institutional, and residential developments. This role champions operational excellence in the managing of Site Forepersons, Sub-contractors and field crews, collaboration with other departments such as Project Management, Production, Integrated Solutions, Warehouse, and builds strong relationships within our organization and outside with general contractors and developers.
Some of the work you will do, but not limited to:
Installation Oversight
Oversee complex large-scale deployments of doors, frames, and architectural hardware.
Ensure precision alignment with project drawings, specs, and fire/life safety standards.
Lead pre-installation field assessment and post-installation quality reviews.
Project & Team Leadership
Direct Site Forepersons, field supervisors, Sub-Contractors, and trade partners.
Develop staffing strategies to meet dynamic jobsite demands and optimize resource allocation.
Collaborate and coordinate with internal departments such as Project Management, Production, Integrated Solutions, and Warehouse, to ensure seamless execution.
Serve as the primary liaison with General Contractor, Architects, and Inspectors to maintain project momentum and resolve filed challenges.
Communicate progress updates to clients and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and schedule alignment.
Quality Assurance & Process Optimization
Enforce compliance with NFPA, ADA and local building codes.
Ensure proper installation of fire-rated assemblies and egress systems.
Lead field audits and warranty resolution efforts.
Streamline workflows from delivery to installation, reducing rework and improving efficiency.
Champion the use of digital tools (construction management software) for regular reporting, time tracking, and documentation.
Training & Safety
Standardize field safety practices to align with company, customer & provincial policies (Daily, weekly & Monthly documentation - PSI's, Toolbox talks, Monthly inspections)
Train field technicians on proper hardware installation techniques (locks, closers, panic devices, etc.)
Good understanding of WorkSafe & supervisory policies and requirements.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and career pathing for field leadership.
Oversee company vehicle company vehicle maintenance schedules and ensure fleet readiness.
Other duties as assigned
WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE LIKE YOU WHO HAS:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is an asset but not required.
8 - 10 years of experience in door/hardware installation or finishing carpentry.
8 - 10 years of field supervision and project delivery.
In-depth knowledge of Division 8 specifications and installation tolerances.
Strong understanding of mechanical and electromechanical hardware systems
Proficient in blueprint reading and construction documentation platforms (Construction Management field software)
Skilled in interpreting and applying building codes and fire/life safety standards.
Precision-driven with a keen eye for detail and quality assurance
Ability to manage multiple active job sites and travel across British Columbia.
Ability to travel outside of British Columbia if required.
Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to guide subcontractors and field crews.
Strong scheduling, coordination, and client-facing communication abilities
