Job Description

The Director of Treaty Law Governance is responsible for the successful leadership and management of both programs. The director is responsible for the fiscal well-being of the Programs, and the strategic plans implemented for the community. Additionally, managing the Treaty program, through effective information exchange, material collection and exchange, technical support to Chief & Council and Elders Advisor and prompt and effective communication about ongoing treaty issues to all interested parties, according to the organization's vision, objective, and strategic direction. The Director attends treaty negotiations and manages the treaty budget and stays connected to community individuals to identify treaty issues and supports the treaty process.

Responsibilities:



Develops an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives for programs and services, including program delivery and evaluation.

Provides advice, plans, and leads community meetings to ensure full information is captured and shared for the treaty process

Meets regularly with the Elder's Advisory Council to ensure continuity, consistency and appropriate approach to treaty implementation

Meets regularly with Treaty 6 First Nation with Treaty 6 Territory and First Nations organizations, etc. to share information and identify problem areas, then work towards developing solutions to issues

Conducts needs assessment with the community to identify gaps and provide targeted services to the community's needs

Consults and liaises with other Treaty experts to share information and to potentially develop new strategies for the treaty process

Works with the Legal Office, Governance and key institutional stakeholders to provide oversight (review, develop and revise/update) and to implement Treaty Governance policies

Provide support to long term human resource needs and planning.

Leads ongoing improvement in policies, processes and procedures.

Supervises the curation of all documents and evidence associated with complaints, Inquiries and Investigations, while maintaining the utmost integrity of evidence and confidentiality

Provide advice and guidance on policy matters where risk is involved related to individuals, units and the department

At minimum five years' experience in a research environment

Experience working with senior leaders, administrators, boards, committees and working groups

Motivated, organized, self-directed, possessing high standards of professional integrity and judgment including the ability to maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive matters

Minimum a BA or BSc in relevant discipline

Qualifications



Bachelor's Degree, associate's degree or University Degree within related field as required; or
5 Years of Management Experience

Experience working with senior leaders, administrators, boards, committees and working groups

Motivated, organized, self-directed, possessing high standards of professional integrity and judgment

including the ability to maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive matters
