Image & Validation Department (I&V) is responsible for producing and validating high-quality product images and associated data that enable our customers to support trading activities and a range of critical business processes.
Role Summary
The Director, I&V is accountable for the team's overall performance, providing strategic direction and overseeing all production activities, from intake through to final asset delivery. This includes ensuring quality, consistency, and efficiency across all outputs, in alignment with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and subscriber expectations. The Director will partner closely with the Vice President, Operational Transformation, to deliver on key transformation initiatives with a strong focus on operational excellence to build a robust platform for sustainable growth. Success in this role requires strong operational management and talent development expertise; the ability to foster a collaborative, innovative culture; and clear, effective communication across teams. The Director will be an inspiring leader who empowers teams to deliver with passion, speed, and quality, while cultivating strong cross-functional relationships to help identify, define and operationalize the evolution of our product offering and identify opportunities to reduce subscriber effort to improve their overall experience with GS1.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day operation, leading a team of cross functional managers and team members responsible for carrying out GS1 Canada's Imaging and Validation activities.
Work closely with the VP, Operations Transformation in developing, communicating, and implementing strategic and operational direction.
Establish the KPI framework to measure progress against strategic goals and provide timely, accurate reporting to help drive decision making and performance improvements.
Design, develop and implement a full set of operational tools to manage the business, including capacity and production plans, forecasts, productivity reporting and budgets.
Work with GS1 Business Leaders to lead a formal S&OP process to ensure the needs of the business are well understood, planned for, and accounted for.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with key 3rd Party service providers, contractors and external parties, providing oversight for contractual obligations and performance levels (SLAs).
Promote cross functional learning and training throughout the operation to ensure the workforce can scale and flex according to fluctuating volumes.
Champion a continuous improvement mindset, coaching the team in the development and implementation of a portfolio of process improvement / automation initiatives with a view to scaling the operation while reducing costs and improving SLAs.
Develop a culture where team members thrive, take on new challenges, and continue to grow.
Provide hands on coaching and mentoring to the I&V Management Team.
Handle subscriber escalations, serving as a subject matter expert to staff on escalated issues.
Work directly with technology, solutions, and services group to build a robust development and process improvement backlog and to ensure the operation is aligned to the overall enterprise technology and solution ecosystem.
Develop a deep understanding of GS1 standards, particularly around measurement and imaging.
Promote and maintain a safe work environment for all employees.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Education: University degree in Business Management, Operations, Supply Chain, or a related discipline; MBA an asset.
Experience: 7-10 years of progressive operations leadership at a senior level, with demonstrated success in scaling teams, improving efficiency, and aligning operations to business strategy.
Industry Background: Preference for candidates with experience in high-volume / fast-pace operational environments (e.g., product photography studios, manufacturing, fulfillment centers, or data validation/quality operations).
Financial Acumen: Strong background in budgeting, cost management, and resource allocation.
Process Excellence: Experience with continuous improvement frameworks; industry- recognized certifications (Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, CPIM, CSCP) strongly preferred.
Analytical & Technical Skills: Proven ability to interpret operational data and translate insights into decisions and process optimization.
Leadership & Communication: Strong people leadership with exceptional ability to communicate, influence, and collaborate across functions in French and English.
Results Orientation: Demonstrated track record of delivering against SLAs, cost targets, and subscriber experience improvements.
This role requires proficiency in both French and English.
