The Director of Marketing & Communications, under the general guidance and supervision of the GM plans, directs, coordinates and participates in all marketing & communications activities within the limits of established hotel policies and procedures, promotes and maintains good communications in order to build and maintain the prestigious image of the hotel.

  • With high integrity, leads and develops colleagues in delivering Shangri-La hospitality from caring people, according to brand standards.
  • Inspires a high level of creativity, personal commitment to service excellence and an emotional sense of gracious hospitality, ensuring delivery of 5 star experiences to guests while optimizing all revenue opportunities.
  • Develops and continually adjusts a strategic marketing plan in order to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual goals.
  • Develops and organizes promotional activities to support and fulfil Marketing and Communications plans. Coordinates with various departments as required.
  • Acts as an information center and as Brand Ambassador in conjunction with the Director of Sales (DOS).
  • Compiles and maintains up-to-date information on all aspects of property and its facilities including digital/photographic assets. This includes, but not limited to, Media Kits, Executive Bios and Fact Sheets.
  • Assist the DOS and Director of Revenue Optimization (DORO) in maintenance of over-the-air content - copy writing and photographic assets.
  • Copy writing and editing of all hotel materials, including but not limited to menus, hotel signage and amenity cards.
  • Regularly updates department heads and staff on promotional activities within the hotel.
  • Keeps team informed of Communications activities of main competitors.
  • Prepares working plans to achieve goals, compares actual achievements against goals and takes corrective action.
  • Guides and monitors hotel and restaurant Social Media accounts.
  • Participates in monthly forecasting of Department\'s expenses.
  • Participates in Sales & Marketing meetings.
  • Is aware of sales/revenue needs and ensures PR/Communication/Marketing supports sales and revenue goals.
  • Attends Revenue meeting and leads Marketing/Communications strategy segments of these meetings.
  • Develops and maintains media contacts, plans press conferences and other press activities. Acts as hotel\'s liaison with media to promote good publicity and counteract negative publicity.
  • Identify need for press releases, determine communication strategy, write and distributes press releases/ communications to appropriate targeted media, locally, regionally and internationally. Similarly write press pitches and follow up strategy.
  • Supervises the collection press clipping, social monitoring and maintains files.
  • Optimizes hotel events and VIP visit to gain exposure for hotel and brand.
  • Develops strategic partnerships to gain high level exposure in key feeder markets of the hotel.
  • Assists in the development of packages for Digital Marketing and works with DOS, DORO and Digital teams to determine target audiences. Digital Marketing responsible for managing fulfilment and access HMEP (proprietary data base).
  • Supervises and directs photography for advertising and social media purpose in liaison with the DOS, DORO and Sales and Marketing Department at Corporate Office.
  • Works with the DOS, DORO and agency on rooms and local hotel advertising campaign creative and media plans.
  • Develops, coordinates, and executes production of all printed material in-house, following the specifications as stipulated in the Corporate ID Manual.
  • Coordinates and supervises the production and quality of all posters, displays and temporary signage in hotel areas.
  • Ensures corporate ID is kept-up-to-date and implemented as appropriate.
  • Coordinates where necessary on promotional activities with sister hotels.
  • Coordinates hotel sponsored events and community relations activities.
  • Effectively directs communication efforts within department including contracts, proposals, and scripting for site inspections, maintain positive communication with other departments in the hotel, particularly collaborate with Revenue Management, Reservations, Rooms and Food and Beverage (F&B) Divisions.
  • Implement digital marketing plans focused on tactical campaigns, brand awareness, social innovation, loyalty program activation and restaurant and lounge marketing
  • Collaborate with corporate teams on implementation of brand initiatives
  • Develop and manage partnerships to drive revenue goals and align with brand initiatives
  • Leads recruitment of Marketing colleagues and effectively trains, recognizes, schedules, provides performance feedback and conducts performance correction if required
  • Motivates marketing colleagues to achieve targeted goals
  • Maintains and updates reports for Vice President of Marketing in order to benchmark success and measure marketing efforts.
  • Responsible for management of all social media platforms
  • Plans and executes client entertainment, marketing programs, trade shows, and familiarization trips, as appropriate.
  • Direct and create graphic assets such as menus, flyers, print ads etc.
  • Undertake other ad hoc related responsibilities, as required.

  • Oral and written fluency in English .
  • Degree in Communications, Marketing or Public Relations.
  • Background in digital advertising, graphic design and creative direction is an asset
  • Five years of Marketing & Communications experience.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design and associated software tools.
  • Experience in use of Social Media analytic tools (such as SocialBakers, HootSuite).
  • Experience in budget and planning, food and beverage marketing and partnership management
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
