Scope:



The Director, Maintenance & Facilities plays a critical leadership role in ensuring optimal performance of production equipment and facility infrastructure within a complex, process-intensive printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing operation. This includes leading a large team focused on equipment uptime, preventive maintenance, and facility compliance.


Duties and Responsibilities:



Lead and manage the daily operations of the Maintenance & Facilities department to ensure uptime, reliability, and cost-effective support of manufacturing operations. Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all critical production machinery and support equipment. Ensure timely response and resolution of breakdowns or equipment failures impacting production. Manage and lead facility operations, including HVAC, compressed air, fire suppression, electrical distribution, and building maintenance. Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations (e.g., OHSA, CEPA, ISO 14001, TGDG, MOECP). Drive a culture of safety and accountability across the maintenance and facilities teams. Develop, implement, and monitor departmental KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, and cost reduction. Establish and manage maintenance planning processes and use of CMMS to track work orders, spare parts, and asset history. Oversee vendor relationships and contracts related to facility services, waste disposal, utilities, and equipment servicing. Collaborate closely with Production, Quality, and EH&S teams to support production requirements and safety protocols. Build and manage departmental budgets, including labour, repair/maintenance, capital upgrades, and utilities. Lead, mentor, and develop a large team of maintenance technicians, facilities staff, and support personnel. Ensure all equipment documentation, maintenance records, and compliance reports are properly maintained and audit ready. Support site-level emergency preparedness and crisis response plans related to facilities or equipment failures.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:



Deep technical understanding of manufacturing equipment, mechanical/electrical systems, and building systems in an industrial setting. Strong working knowledge of TTM, preventive/predictive maintenance, and reliability best practices. Proven leadership skills with experience managing large, diverse maintenance and facilities teams. Familiarity with Canadian OHSA regulations, CEPA, ISO 14001, MOECP, and other applicable codes/standards. Skilled in budget development, cost control, vendor management, and capital project execution. Proficient in CMMS software, MS Office tools, and data analysis for performance tracking. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills under pressure. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to influence across functions and levels.

Education and Experience:



Post-secondary education in a technical field such as Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Technology (required). Certification or license in a skilled trade (e.g., millwright, electrician) or maintenance management (asset). 10+ years of progressive experience in maintenance/facilities roles in a manufacturing environment, preferably PCB/electronics or industrial manufacturing. 5+ years in a senior leadership role managing large teams (20+ employees) and multiple functions (maintenance + facilities). Demonstrated success in driving equipment reliability and operational improvements at scale.
