About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Lands leads the Lands Department's strategic planning, land governance, and operational development. This role supports the implementation of the KFN Land Code and preparation for the transition to a Treaty governance environment, overseeing land use policy, environmental regulation, and enforcement frameworks
What You'll Do
Provide strategic leadership in lands governance, planning, and policy development
Oversee land use, environmental protection, and registry system transition to Treaty governance
Coordinate with legal, engineering, and planning consultants and funding agencies
Foster relationships with government partners and regulatory bodies
Mentor Lands staff and lead departmental development aligned with Nation priorities
Oversee leases, land acquisition/divestment, and development opportunities
Negotiate development agreements, MOUs, leases, and contracts in collaboration with legal and financial advisors
Prepare funding proposals and represent KFN in external negotiations and community development discussions
What you Bring
Bachelor's degree in Land Use Planning, Environmental Science, Resource Management, or related field (or equivalent experience/lived experience)
7+ years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
Strong knowledge of Land Code, land tenure systems, and Indigenous land governance
Experience working with Indigenous governments and familiarity with First Nations governance in BC
Cultural sensitivity and awareness of historical and contemporary Indigenous contexts
Excellent communication, negotiation, and team leadership skills
High emotional intelligence and proven ability to build respectful relationships
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and office equipment including printers, plotters, and projectors
