The Director of Infrastructure is responsible for the strategic planning, oversight, and management of all physical infrastructure and supports at an independent living and supportive living facility. This includes the maintenance and operation of buildings, grounds, equipment, and facility systems to ensure a safe, comfortable, and regulatory-compliant environment for residents, staff, and visitors. The role ensures long-term asset sustainability while aligning with provincial regulations, health standards, and the organization's mission of delivering quality senior care. The Director of Infrastructure will work with Interdisciplinary team to support the infrastructure of TPFA with direct responsibility for tenant relations across several properties in Calgary.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
Lead, mentor, and evaluate site managers, and facility operations staff.
Promote a team culture focused on safety, respect, inclusion, and excellence in care and service.
Oversee training, onboarding, and professional development aligned with both care and operational standards.
Lead and develop a team of maintenance, custodial, and facility support staff.
Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Strategic Leadership & Planning:
Develop and execute long-term capital plans, asset management strategies, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
Lead and support major infrastructure projects, including renovations, expansions, and new developments.
Work with the leadership team to align infrastructure initiatives with organizational goals and resident needs.
Operations & Maintenance:
Oversee all aspects of facility maintenance, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, elevators, fire safety, and emergency systems.
Ensure the grounds and buildings are maintained to high aesthetic and safety standards.
Supervise preventative maintenance programs and coordinate repairs and upgrades as needed.
Compliance & Risk Management:
Ensure compliance with Alberta Health Services (AHS) regulations, building codes, occupational health and safety (OHS), fire code, and environmental standards.
Lead health, safety, and emergency preparedness programs for infrastructure-related issues.
Manage inspections, certifications, and reports required by authorities having jurisdiction.
Ensure that all regulations and legislation pertaining to the Management Body Agreement and other pertinent legislations are followed, this includes but not limited to Management Body Operations Regulations, Social Housing Accommodation Regulations, Housing Accommodation Tenants Regulations, and the Residential Tenancies Act
Financial Management:
Develop and manage the infrastructure and capital budgets.
Monitor expenditures and ensure cost-effective operations and procurement.
Prepare business cases and justifications for capital investments.
Vendor and Contractor Management:
Oversee procurement processes for infrastructure-related goods and services.
Manage performance of contractors and service providers.
Ensure contracts comply with legal and organizational requirements.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Certification in Building Operator, Facility Management Professional (FMP), or equivalent is an asset.
Minimum 7 years of progressive leadership in infrastructure or facility operations.
Minimum 3 years in seniors housing, healthcare, or supportive living environment in Alberta is highly preferred.
Proven experience with capital project delivery, infrastructure budgeting, and lifecycle asset management.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This industry requires empathy for and an understanding of the needs of seniors and also requires a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check including a Criminal Background Check. This position operates in a fast-paced and challenging environment. This role involves occasional periods of extended hours to facilitate the operations and requires high cognitive function to absorb and process complex information and stress associated with managing emotionally charged situations.
