More about the Organization:

The Dorothy Ley Hospice offers both community and residential care to people living with a life-limiting illness or loss. Our goal is to enable individuals to live their life to the fullest in comfort, with dignity, meaning and hope. Our services, offered at no cost to the individual or their family members, address their physical, emotional, spiritual, and practical needs. Last year, Hospice staff and its more than 300 trained volunteers served over 2,500 individuals.

The Dorothy Ley Hospice fundraises over $1M annually, accounting for 40% of The Hospice\'s operating budget. The Hospice will be launching a new five-year strategic plan to build on the organization\'s successes to expand hospice services to meet the growing demand for hospice care. A fundraising campaign to enable this growth strategy is being planned.

About the Director of Fund Development Opportunity:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Fund Development will develop and execute the annual fundraising plan including major gifts, annual appeal, planned giving, monthly giving, special events and capital campaigns, as needed. The Director of Fund Development will work closely with the Executive Director, Fund Development Team, Leadership team and the Board of Directors in all development and fundraising endeavors.

Key Responsibilities of the Director of Fund Development:
  • Develops and leads organizational fundraising strategy and implementation plan to grow current annual fundraising
  • Organizes and directs fundraising programs and campaigns as required through staff and provides overall leadership, direction, training, and motivation to the Fund Development team
  • Enhances the planned giving program to benefit the Hospice with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies
  • Manages a portfolio of major donors and prospects, developing and implementing tailored cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans
  • Engages and mobilizes lead volunteers to engage in effective solicitations and other fundraising activities
  • Initiates, plans, and develops programs to lead the solicitation of major gifts that would include individuals, Foundations and Corporations
  • Researches and applies to foundations for grant awards for various programs as needed and manages all aspects of post-award grants including reporting requirements
  • Evaluates progress toward goals and provide regular reporting to ED and the Board of Directors
  • Establish systems, processes, and tools to maximize fundraising capacity including overseeing donor management database working with the donor relations associate
  • Works with the fundraising and events associate to plan all hospice fundraising, stewardship, and campaign events
  • Develops print and digital marketing collateral related to fundraising in collaboration with the Fundraising and events associate and the communications specialist
  • Teaches and promotes the principles of philanthropy, which includes ethical and legal requirements to staff, volunteers, and board members
  • Remains current in gift planning legislative developments and fundraising techniques
  • Provides leadership in planning and executing fundraising campaigns with the support of consultants as needed
  • Works closely with the board fundraising committee to execute on fundraising goals
  • Maintains and expands donor recognition policies and Donor Agreements
  • Performs other related duties as requested
Qualifications and Experience of the Director of Fund Development:
  • Bachelor\'s degree and a minimum of 7 to 10 years\' experience in a lead fundraising role
  • CFRE certificate from the Association of Fundraising Professionals preferred
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Good computer knowledge, particularly Microsoft Office, Raiser\'s Edge, Adobe
  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising principles and techniques and knowledge of the technical aspects of planned giving vehicles. Certified Fundraising Executive designation an asset
  • Excellent communication skills, including presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy in difficult or sensitive situations
  • Own transportation and valid Driver\'s License
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and strict adherence to donor privacy and confidentiality
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Initiative, drive, enthusiasm, and a genuine interest in other people
  • Ability to work flexible hours when required
