Director of Freight.



This position is responsible for freight and transportation services provided to existing and future clients and ensuring that services are delivered promptly and accurately. Act as a central escalation point of contact for all freight, transportation, cartage or delivery matters. Provide advice, support and resources to other employees and functional areas of the company.

Key Responsibilities:



Engage with existing clients for their inbound and outbound freight and transportation needs, including but not limited to sourcing and selling FTL, LTL, Cartage, Parcel, Drayage, Rail Cargo, Air freight and Ocean freight. Develop a dynamic program for both buy-side and sell-side transactions and merge the transportation program with the company's existing 3PL service offering. Ensure transportation partners are selected appropriate to service needs and are compliant with all current legislation, permits, and enforcement programs Understanding of TMS systems and tracking tools commonly used in the industry. Possess an analytical ability to gather and summarize data, manage pricing programs, establish tariff processes and client rate tables, monitor and update fuel surcharges, and regularly publish the updates. Oversee rates and quotes and inspect overall billing process. Negotiate rates and services with various service providers at local, regional, and national levels. Maximize margin potential to meet the business budgets. Train existing CSR and Business Development representatives to utilize the programs, promoting the solution to clients, and provide overall leadership in areas of operational performance, and customer and vendor relations. Actively sell transportation and freight services, as well as represent the company in securing business for all other 3PL warehousing services. Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

Desired Skills:



10+ years of experience in freight forwarding and/or transportation management. 5+ years of experience in a management/supervisory role. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written. Possess an analytical ability to gather and summarize data, manage pricing programs, establish tariff processes and client rate tables. Understanding of TMS systems and tracking tools commonly used in the industry. Has ability to motivate staff to achieve common goals. Possess and ability to maintain a cooperative work environment. Ability to maintain a sound judgment and sensibility during stressful and demanding situations. Manage Key Performance Indicators (KPI), and prepare clear and concise reports to various stakeholders is required. Excellent continuous improvement, organizational, coaching and training skills are required. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of tools. Experience in Warehouse Management Systems: LMRS, Summit, SAP, Acumatica, is preferred. Intermediate experience with planning, inventory management, financials and budgeting. Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, listening and presentation. Excellent organizational skills with a proactive approach and strong problem-solving skills.
