Position Summary
Director, Finance
Your goal in this position, in collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), is to ensure the financial health and integrity of the Hospital and infrastructure necessary to support this, including treasury, accounting, payroll, accounts payable, patients billing, and registration. This position supports the hospital's academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.
On a practical level, you will
Provide primary leadership in managing the department's physical, financial, and human resource aspects of the Finance department, including accounting, accounts payable, patients account, payroll, registration and material management, consistent with the Mission, Strategic Plan, Goals and Objectives of the Hospital.
Provide leadership and coordination in operational planning for the department.
Provide advice and recommendations on all financial policy and strategic issues to the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Management, as required.
Provide advice to individual Vice Presidents, Directors and other managers in the Hospital and the Hospital Foundation on issues related to financial and statistical reports and financial management.
Liaise effectively with the CFO and departmental staff in the promotion of teamwork, cohesiveness, motivation, and commitment to the delivery of quality service.
Foster an environment of cooperation, professionalism, and learning.
Facilitate multi-disciplinary collaboration within finance and among programs and departments.
Ensure all financial controls are in place in all areas of the Hospital, and regularly monitor the effectiveness of these controls.
Ensure robust processes and controls to ensure compliance with legislation, accounting guidelines and broader public sector procurement guidelines.
Work with external auditors and others, as required, to ensure highest standards of financial records, reporting, and controls.
Collaborate with Human Resources in the development and implementation of Recruitment and Retention strategies for departmental staff
Develop and maintains effective linkages with Hospital departments and programs and external service providers and agencies. Develop and maintain professional external network of resources.
Maintain current knowledge and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Hospital policies, Collective Agreements, accreditation guidelines, Risk Management, and Occupational Health and Safety requirements
Qualifications
Post-Secondary Degree in Business Administration or Accounting
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA)
Registration in good standing with the Chartered Professional Accountant Association(s)
Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare setting overseeing a broad range of financial services
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Bilingualism in French/English an asset
