Job Description


Overview:
We are looking for a highly motivated, confident, hard-working and enthusiastic individual to join our finance team. The role is to cover an employee maternity leave (1 year contract) starting in late November, early December 2023 and is a fantastic opportunity for someone to lead the day-to-day accounting and finance function of a fast growing and exciting organization. Your days will be fast-paced and filled with ever-evolving challenges (and pooches)!
Forecasting / Budgeting (25%)

  • Manage the rolling cashflow forecast including updating the forecast on weekly/monthly basis, ensuring accurate liquidity forecast.
  • Monitor and manage the credit facility and ensure ongoing compliance with debt covenants.
  • Oversee and monitor the company\xe2\x80\x99s financial position.
Financial Analysis + Inventory Management (25%)
  • Complete financial analysis for sales, marketing, and operations teams, with focus on gross margin analysis and net profit contribution.
  • Complete detailed sell-through analysis for key retailers on monthly basis to identify in-season sales opportunities and need for promotional activity.
  • Complete financial analysis/reports/decks as requested by external parties.
  • Monitor company\xe2\x80\x99s inventory position on ongoing basis and approve all inventory POs based on achieving months on hand targets.
  • Work closely with the CEO in identifying and addressing financial risks and opportunities.
Financial Reporting (15%)
  • Oversee full cycle accounting function including reviewing monthly financial statement package.
  • Ensure financial reporting accuracy.
  • Review commentary on budget to actual performance.
  • Ensure financial statements are completed on a timely basis (within 2-3 weeks post month-end).
  • Follow-up correspondence with management / investors.
External Party Communication (10%)
  • Communicate with external parties (including bank, investors, insurance) on a frequent basis, serving as the main point of contact on the finance team.
Audit / Compliance (10%)
  • Maintain relationship with external auditors and manage interim and year-end audit processes.
  • Complete regulatory and other required external compliance reporting within designated timelines, including both Canadian and US sales tax filings and remittances.
  • Prepare quarterly covenant reporting and financial statements for bank.
Coaching (15%)
  • Lead finance team and provide coaching/support to Finance Manager.

What You Bring
  • You have a University Degree in Accounting and/or Finance.
  • You are a finance leader with hands on experience in all areas of accounting, financial reporting, and finance.
  • You are a qualified CPA and have a minimum of 8 years of experience, including at least 4 years in a managerial capacity.
  • You are humble, have a \xe2\x80\x98roll up your sleeves\xe2\x80\x99 mentality and are a true team player.
  • You have previously worked in finance/accounting at companies in CPG/retail.
  • You thrive in fast-paced, ever-changing, entrepreneurial environments.
  • You are a self-starter who is never satisfied with the status quo.
  • You are an expert with the Microsoft Office Suite & QuickBooks.
  • You are detail oriented, deadline-focused and are excited about leveraging financial reporting and data to drive business processes and strategy.
