Job Summary


We are seeking a highly experienced and driven Director of Electrical & Digital Systems Engineering to lead the electrical design and remote monitoring capabilities of our equipment fleet. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of our SCADA, telemetry, and control systems, while ensuring the highest standards of cyber and data security. The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta, with a degree in electrical or computer engineering, experience in visualization and time series database systems, and an ability to lead cross-functional teams toward scalable, field-ready solutions.

Key Responsibilities


1. Electrical Design Oversight
Lead the design and engineering of electrical systems for our mobile and fixed compression and PRS solutions Ensure designs meet applicable standards including CSA 22.1, NFPA 70, and other relevant regulations. Working with our instrumentation partner, oversee integration of power distribution, control systems, instrumentation, and safety systems. Manage all 3rd party electrical approvals
2. SCADA & Remote Monitoring Systems
Architect and manage SCADA/RTU/IIoT infrastructure across Plum's equipment fleet. Lead development and deployment of remote monitoring, alarms, and control systems. Select and implement time series databases such as InfluxDB, TimescaleDB, or OpenTSDB. Oversee data visualization and dashboards using tools like Grafana, Kibana, or Power BI.
3. Cybersecurity & Data Integrity
Define security requirements for control networks and ensure best practices are followed. Work closely with IT teams to implement secure communications (e.g., VPN, SSL/TLS). Ensure system resilience, data redundancy, and compliance with internal and industry standards.
4. Leadership & Strategy
Build and mentor a team of engineers and technologists across multiple disciplines. Translate executive-level goals into practical system designs and deployment strategies. Drive digital transformation initiatives in equipment design and field operations to ensure Plum is seen as a technology leader
5. Compliance & Professional Oversight
Seal engineering documents and ensure all electrical designs meet regulatory standards. Review and approve third-party or vendor-supplied equipment and control systems.

Qualifications


Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline (master's degree preferred) MBA or equivalent business leadership experience is a strong asset. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed in Alberta - mandatory. Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role. Hands-on knowledge of SCADA, PLCs, RTUs, and IIoT architectures. Proven experience with time-series database systems and modern visualization tools. Expert-level understanding of industrial protocols such as Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, and CANbus.

Preferred Experience:


Background in energy services, gas compression, or mobile industrial equipment. Expertise in CNG/RNG distribution systems or related energy sectors. Field experience is a strong asset Experience with control panel design, automation programming, and data pipelines. Strong communications skills with an ability to deliver concise technical information to C-level executives in boardroom, field or conference situations
