We understand that it\xe2\x80\x99s our people that make us great. Role Summary The Director, Data Engineering is well-versed in the field that they are leading. They are instrumental in helping drive the strategy and execution of their practice. They work with their team in implementing and carrying out innovative solutions as well as attaining the mission and the goals of Project X and their clients. The leader of this team is passionate about people, essentially a \xe2\x80\x9cchampion of the people\xe2\x80\x9d. They are responsible for the development of an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes quality, a growth mindset, employee retention and development, and high performance. Major Areas of Responsibility

1. Project Related Activities

  • Help team members with successful delivery of their project by providing guidance and best practices.
  • Help project delivery team with planning and resourcing.
  • Help project team in de-escalations.
2. Team Building & Mentoring
  • Inspire your team. Lead by example. Promote growth mindset.
  • Conduct regular monthly one-on-one meetings with individuals on your team.
  • Work with individuals on their professional development plan.
  • Establish performance expectations and address skill gaps and coach for performance improvements when required.
  • Empower employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals.
  • Promote and exemplify the company\xe2\x80\x99s culture and our core values.
3. Resource Management & Talent Acquisition
  • Match team skillsets and availability to accommodate engagements.
  • Participate in resource forecasting with management team to be prepared for resourcing on future engagement.
  • Assist in interviewing and selecting new team members based on competencies
4. Practice Development
  • Work side-by-side with the leadership team and your team, to develop career paths.
  • Work with team to implement new approaches, best practice, process improvements and IP into the practice.
5. Sales, Marketing & Branding Support
  • Participate in trade specific activities for networking and Project X brand awareness.
  • Be available for sales support as needed; review and approve approaches, proposal content and project plan as it relates to your practice and ensure contracts reflect your practices needs.
Required Knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Detailed, practical working knowledge in the mission of Data Engineers, Solution Architects, and Data Modelers in Data and Big Daa.
  • Architecture frameworks, methodologies and tools - Cloud and Data Warehouse Architectures and which tools apply to each part of the architectures.
  • 10 years of full project delivery of complex BI/DW projects as it relates to Data
  • Data Integration: ETL, ELT, Database
  • ETL tools including IBM DataStage, Talend ETL, Informatica, Microsoft SSIS, SAP BODS, Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) or Ab Initio
  • Big data, data query/ingestion tools such as HBase, Hive, Pig, Sqoop, Flume, Spark, Kafka, Impala, Hadoop, Oozie.
  • Data warehousing, including data mapping and transformations, data dependencies, data source analysis and profiling, OLTP, OLAP, SQL, and DBMS (Teradata, Oracle or SQL Server).
  • Over 3 years of demonstrated experience working with major cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
  • Experience building Data Engineering best practices and recommendations for clients.
  • Experience with building strategy.
  • Over 5 years of experience managing people.
  • Bachelor\'s Degree, preferably in Software or Computer Science/Engineering fields or related industry experience or acumen.
Nice to Have
  • Sales support experience is an asset.
  • Specialized training in management is an asset.
