About the Role:

Reporting to the VP Finance, Compliance and CFO, the Director of Compliance is responsible for the leadership of the Compliance function at Facility Association. The position will be responsible for the efficient execution and planning of member and servicing carrier audits and regulatory compliance. The position ensures practices are closely aligned with industry best practices and that roles, responsibilities and results within the Compliance group are efficiently coordinated and collectively optimized to align with the risk management, controls and governance at Facility Association. The position maintains the second line of defense at the organization.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Lead Compliance audits annual planning, execution, reporting to members.
  • Develop annually a risk-based plan for member companies. Oversee the implementation of the approved plan; ensure proper resourcing for implementation and adjusting the plan as needed in response to changes in risks, operations, systems and controls.
  • Ensure methodical documentation of work plans, testing results, conclusions and recommendations. Ensure follow up on findings and corrective actions
  • Continuously review legislative changes impacting the industry and incorporate into the compliance audit plan. In collaboration with the UCO group, keep up on the Auto Product legislation as well as other areas of the business, including Finance. Ensure appropriate training and understanding is provided to the team
  • Oversee execution of individual compliance audits defined in the audit plan ensuring the highest level of service quality and client satisfaction
  • Regularly review internal processes for efficiencies and opportunities to leverage information from other areas \xe2\x80\x93 champion Continuous Improvement practices
  • Issuing of all Compliance Audit reports to member companies ensuring the reports are clear, concise, identify root causes with practical recommendations, where required, that ultimately provide value to management
  • Track and educate team and organisation on emerging industry issues and best practices relating to compliance audits and controls
  • Support management on strategic initiatives in the organisation by providing support and thought leadership
  • Maintain the audit technology platform, leveraging support from Data and Analytics as needed.
  • Oversee the CSAE 3416 process and ensure operating efficiently from a second line of defense
  • Oversee the regulatory compliance assessment and lead the framework to support attestation
  • Attract, hire and retain a team of high-performing audit managers and professionals who possess outstanding knowledge, experience ethics and integrity
  • Establish and assign departmental goals to team members and evaluate their performance
  • Responsible for coaching, mentoring, and developing career paths for direct reports
  • Any other duties as assigned

Key Experience and Qualifications:

  • 10-12 years of related work experience with a least 3 years in a Leadership Role as Head of Compliance Department or equivalent
  • Professional degree in Accounting and Finance
  • Certified Internal Audit (CIA) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Experience in Property and Casualty insurance in Canada, and experience with underwriting and claims considered an asset

  • Multitasks, organizes, and prioritizes work, and ability to work under pressure competing demands and deadlines; adjusts schedule and organizes own and department\'s work as required.
  • Project management skills with an ability to plan, organize, and control multiple initiatives in an accurate, timely, and effective manager
