BASIS: FULL-TIME, PERMANENT | CLOSING DATE: NOVEMBER 14, 2025, AT 9:00 AM





The Director of Community Safety & Development provides strategic leadership and advice for guiding the growth and resilience of the City of Castlegar. This position oversees land use planning and development services, building inspection, protective services, emergency management, and climate readiness programs.



Key Responsibilities



Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer and serving as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Community Safety & Development provides vision, leadership, and expertise in policy development, regulatory compliance, and municipal planning to support sustainable economic and social development while enhancing public safety.



Qualifications



The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree in a related discipline such Planning, Engineering, Public Administration or Emergency Management plus a minimum of 5-years of applicable experience at a senior level in local government. A combination of education & experience will be considered.



A competitive compensation package will be provided including an attractive salary range of $129,644-$154,695 plus excellent benefits, including enrolment in the Municipal Pension Plan. Please visit our website at castlegar.ca for a full job description and information on our community.
