Roles and Responsibilities
Accountable to ensuring the highest standard of resident care is provided in accordance with the Health Professions Act and other relevant legislation and governing professional organizations.
Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate delivery of quality care and services.
Provide supervision and mentorship of care staff, assess performance and skills.
Provide hands-on leadership to support a team environment.
Maintain contact with residents and families to ensure quality, resident-centered care.
Participate in the care and safety audit processes; prepare and complete action plans.
Responsible for the efficient operation of the Care Department.
Participate in hiring, training, and the disciplinary process.
Coordinate schedules and oversee scheduling; assess staffing levels related to care needs and provide recommendations for efficiencies.
Liaise with physicians, pharmacies, Case Managers, and the interdisciplinary team.
Work closely with staff, residents, and families in concern resolution.
Participate in quality assurance initiatives and assist to develop strategies and processes to improve outcomes.
Assist with special projects as needed.
Responsible for after-hours on-call support to the care team.
Provide support to the Management Team as needed. Assist to problem solve, brainstorm, and resolve issues as requested by the team members.
Effectively represent the interests of the company in all external dealings; Building strong, positive relationships with Alberta Health Services and all other parties, municipal, provincial, as well as associations such as the Alzheimer Society, Gerontology Association; cultivating a positive reputation relating to the provision of Care and use of Best Practices.
Complete all required reports for Alberta Seniors, Alberta Health Services or Senior Management when needed.
Define and effectively communicate what is required to achieve goals; creating protocols and monitoring the work. Promoting teamwork amongst departments and encouraging collaboration across all departments.
Manages him/herself to a high personal standard.
Qualifications and Education
Current Alberta registration as a Registered Nurse
Current CPR and First Aid
Criminal records check with vulnerable sector dated within six months
A very good knowledge of current nursing practices, all related requirements, legislations, acts and standards for seniors' housing and assisted / supportive living
Experience in a leadership role with demonstrated excellence in management, leadership, clinical judgement, and interpersonal skills
Participation in ongoing education and learning
Knowledge of accreditation is an asset
Proficient in Word and Excel
