What You'll Be Doing
As the Director of CIBC's AI Applications Development team, you will lead a high-performing, full-stack team of AI engineers, developers, and QA specialists responsible for developing and supporting enterprise-grade AI solutions. In this leader-of-leaders role, you will provide technical leadership to ensure the successful design, development, and deployment of advanced AI applications across CIBC. You will oversee collaboration with other technology and business units to define solution architecture, integration contracts, and ensure seamless interaction between services, aligning with strategic business needs and technical standards.
You will ensure the security, scalability, and performance of AI-driven applications--including cloud-native deployments, robust observability, and compliance--while leveraging modern AI frameworks and platforms to optimize solution delivery. This role demands maintaining a high standard of technical execution, efficiency, and strong documentation practices. We are seeking a highly technical leader with expertise in AI application development, agentic AI, and enterprise delivery, who genuinely cares about the well-being and success of the team. Communicate complex technical concepts in a business-friendly language to influence and build trust with non-technical leaders.
Technical Expertise: Leverage your extensive technical knowledge to influence architectural decisions, implement strong security practices, and foster innovation in the development of AI assets. Act as a hands-on technical lead, building and deploying AI applications using Python, FastAPI, JavaScript, Vue.js, React.js, and Azure AI services. Implement and optimize retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, and apply evaluation tools (e.g., RAGAS) to ensure accuracy and reliability. Work extensively with Azure OpenAI and other large language models (LLMs), applying prompt engineering and context engineering to maximize effectiveness. Oversee infrastructure and deployments on Azure Cloud, leveraging GitHub Actions for CI/CD, with SQL and Redis for data and session management. Ensure robust QA automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or equivalent) are in place to guarantee quality and scalability of applications.
Delivery Focused: Work closely with internal partners to determine, negotiate, and manage projects to the agreed upon timeline. Monitor finances, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend appropriate solutions. Under your leadership, implement projects in a timely fashion that are of high quality, low cost, and on budget. Drive a shared AI strategy across business units, building reusable components and unified solutions that scale across the enterprise.
Who You AreYou are a seasoned technical leader: You have 7+ years of demonstrated experience in a leadership role with a focus on technical architecture, application development, and solutions design. Required Qualifications: Proven hands-on expertise with Python, FastAPI, JavaScript, Vue.js, and modern AI frameworks. Experience working with Azure Cloud services and enterprise-grade AI deployments. Strong knowledge of SQL, Redis, and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or equivalent). Experience with QA automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar). Practical experience with LLMs, RAG architectures, and prompt/context engineering. Hands-on experience with LangGraph, LangChain, LangSmith, or equivalent agentic AI frameworks. Demonstrated ability to implement observability and monitoring for AI agents in production environments. Track record of architecting and delivering enterprise-level AI solutions. Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor full-stack technical teams. Excellent business communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment.
