Job Description

Job Summary:

The Director of Accounting is responsible for the oversight of the financial operations of MCHA which includes providing strategic financial leadership to the Executive Director, managing the Accounting and Payroll and Benefits Department to ensure timely and accurate financial statements, and analyzing and reporting on the financial status of the agency through budgets, forecasts and cash flows.

Duties/Responsibilities

Team Leadership
o With other managers, provide day-to-day leadership for Accounting and Payroll with the goal of providing monthly financial statements for the Board of Directors.

o Coach, develop and direct the accounting team in AP, AR, GL and Payroll functions

o Foster teamwork within the accounting and payroll department to work collaboratively towards daily, weekly and monthly goals and projects.

o Foster collaborative relationships with other organizational departments.

o Oversee all accounting functions to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.

o Provide performance feedback, annual reviews, and performance support as required.

Senior Leadership Team Participation
o Participate in all Senior Leadership meetings and contribute to the overall leadership of the Agency.

o Assist in the development and implementation of the annual operations plan.

o Outcomes reporting in relation to strategic planning and development

o Actively support evolution of service through sector changes

Financial Statement Preparation
o Prepare monthly Financial Statements as outlined by the Board of Directors consisting of a Detailed Income Statement, Summary Income Statement, Consolidated Income Statement, Administrative statement, and Balance Sheet. Present to the Executive Director, Board of Directors.

o Prepare and present to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors an analysis of the Financial Reports explaining the financial variances to budgets and noting extraordinary events and potential financial risks.

o Balance the Trial Balance to the General ledger including AR and AP Subledgers to the General ledger and actioning concerns affecting cash flow.

o Analyze Balance Sheet and Income Statement General Ledger accounts to provide insight and transparency into the operations of the organization and guide decision making.

o Identify financial risk

o Ensure adherence to all financial regulations including mandatory remittances and other fiscal responsibilities.

Analysis and Reporting
o Analysis and implementation of financial policies and standards to improve the productivity and performance of the agency.

o Financial analysis of the Agency's activities and assigned projects.

o Assist the Executive Director in project analysis and report preparation

Annual Audit Engagement
o Liaise with the external accounting firm throughout the year to maintain current accounting standards and reduce audit preparation time. Assist the external firm with the submission of Income tax submission.

o Plan for the annual audit by developing monthly timelines, reports and reconciliations for the Accounting Team to execute and ensure a successful audit.

o Manage the annual audit through preparation of working papers, schedules, financial reports.

o Review and approve the Annual Audited statements. Advise on the Management letter and subsequent entries. Develop policies, procedures and internal controls based on Audit recommendations and input.

Budgeting
o Recommend financial goals and objectives for the upcoming year. Highlight the opportunities and risks to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.

o Prepare an annual budget with explanations to the Board of Directors.

o Understand and action the requirements of the funder and ensure MCHA is in compliance with the requirements of Department of Opportunities and Social Development.

o Compare the predicted budget numbers to the actual figures and evaluate for differences establishing why they occurred.

Cash Flow Management
o Monitor the liquidity of the organization including all debts and assets.

o Create and maintain the cash flow statement

o Manage the purchase and reporting of capital assets and equipment.

o Manage the relationship with the company's banking partner.

o Report and Manage Operating loans, Mortgages and Trust Fund responsibilities.

o Oversee collections

Payroll
o Oversight of the payroll procedure

o Some knowledge/training required to be familiar with the payroll systems utilized, including basic ability to assist during vacancies

Education

A university degree or masters with a concentration in accounting

A professional accounting designation is preferred.

Experience:

No less than 5 years preferably in a non-profit sector

Must have demonstrated experience in leading and implementing efficient change management.

Pay: From $92,000.00 per year
