About the Opportunity

Our client who is a large, prestigious organization located in Ottawa is looking for a Director of Accounting for a six-month contract. You would report directly to the VP Finance and plan, organize, direct and control the accounting operations of all funds related to the functions of accounting for revenues and expenses, vendor payments and customer receipts.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Directs the preparation of the annual audited financial statements of the organization, the two pension plans and the consolidated companies in accordance with Canadian accounting standards and submits them to the various bodies (Administration Committee, Audit Committee and Board of Governors) for approval
  • Directs the preparation of various financial reports and surveys for legal, governmental, granting and other funding entities
  • Implements adequate internal controls to ensure the quality, accuracy, and completeness of information that is reported to the general ledger and year-end transactions, to ensure the integrity of the organizations financial activities while keeping in mind administrative simplification and while minimizing the risk of error and fraud
  • Provides leadership in the development and implementation of policies and procedures that promote sound and effective financial management in collaboration with other departments, including the funding and accounting treatment of complex financial transactions
  • Directs and oversees the financial management of the capital fund and the financing of renovation/construction projects (through internal debt, grants, reserves, etc.) to ensure the integrity of the financial and accounting treatment. Directs the preparation of the capital fund budget, establishing assumptions and budgetary objectives for the fund
  • Provides leadership in the evaluation and implementation of modernization initiatives for processes and systems related to financial systems and affecting the organizations accounting operations
  • Oversees the management of commodity taxes (federal and provincial) and acts as a consultant to departments in the application of taxes
  • Directs operations related to the timely payment of vendors, as well as the collection of outstanding fees
  • Manages and develops team members (6 direct reports) while maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
About You

The successful candidate will have the following:
  • CPA designation
  • Bilingualism - French and English (spoken and written)
  • At least ten years\' experience in a large organization, including at least six years in a financial management position
  • Four years\' experience managing a team
About the Job

This is a hybrid position which would require at least 2 days a week onsite.
