Director of Accounting

Fairmont Banff Springs is looking for an accomplished Finance professional with proven success in delivering accounting activities and business support by working effectively with the finance team, collaborating with senior operational leadership and partnership with stakeholders.

This position requires hands-on leadership qualities with motivational abilities to coach, train and develop a large team of dedicated finance professionals. Strong accounting business acumen, proven communication, business presentation and analytical skills with a strong systems background, are desired qualities.

What you will be doing:

Reporting to the Regional Director of Finance and Business Support, this role operates within a regional office serving a portfolio of hotels. The successful applicant will drive all Accounting, Finance and Business Support function at Fairmont Banff Springs - our flagship luxury resort, which include a focus on optimizing workflow thru collaboration, perform month end process and reporting, payroll, credit, cash management, food and beverage cost control, yield management, capital planning, budgeting and systems management.
  • Embrace an established culture of business support by partnering with the hotel leaders for achieving optimal operating performance for Accor and ownership by proactively managing all measured Key Performance Indicators
  • Drive colleague engagement level by regularly communicating with the finance team (i.e. monthly meetings) to maintain positive relationships across the resort (i.e. Employee Engagement Survey)
  • Recruit, train and lead finance colleagues and foster ongoing learning and development to ensure excellent service deliverable to hotel wide colleagues and leadership. More specifically, monitor employee performance through positive feedback, performance management, annual performance reviews and recognition practice
  • Prepare and provide accurate and complete financial and management reports on a timely basis to hotel management, corporate office and owners in accordance with the company reporting requirements by completing all month end duties; P&L, forecast, commentary and inventory management, including a complete balance sheet accounts reconciliation review and monthly ownership reporting and performance analysis reports submission (i.e. cash flow and monthly owner distribution)
  • Partner with the company Centralized Accounting System Delivery team to ensure accurate and timely process of Accounts Payable and Income Audit workflow and balance sheets accounts reconciliation
  • Develop key relationships with Department Heads and Senior Managers to provide financial support and develop business acumen to drive understanding of short and long term financial impact
  • Proven impact on the financial planning, cost management and operations with demonstrated business operations decision making balancing data analysis and outcome (drive and maximize GOP Flow Through concept; assist in the annual operating budgets and short term forecasts)
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and recommendation to improve accuracy of work schedules, labor standards and planning to assist operations leaders
  • Comply with legal and fiscal regulations of the hotel, which impacts financials including proper business permits and licenses, hotel contracts and lease agreements
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and procedures spearheading self-audit protocols and manage internal and external audits by implementing recommended compliance report action plan with operations leadership
  • Consistently offers professional, engaging and friendly service
  • All other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:
  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Business, Finance, or a relevant field of work, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience. MBA, CMA or CPA preferred
  • Previous experience as a hotel Controller, Director of Accounting or Director of Finance, preferred
  • 5+ years management/progressive work-related experience in multiple areas of accounting and/or management and reporting, financial and/or business analysis or related area, with 2 to 4 years managing large teams and/or significant complex projects. Previous hotel experience at a managerial level an asset, with proven experience in developing, and leading teams
  • Superior skills in computer technology and applications.
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office required (Excel in particular).
  • Experience with accounting systems or similar financial software for the purpose of financial reporting, analysis and presentation (i.e. Birchstreet procurement software, Sun GFS back of the house, Watson labor management tool and OneStream reporting).
  • Familiarity with hotel operating systems and software, such as POS software (i.e. Silverware) and Opera PMS
