MAJOR DUTIES: In this role, the Director will be responsible for all areas of engineering for Nuclear Projects and Programs within ATS Industrial Automation. The Director will have a dedicated team of specialized Engineers, Designers and Technicians to undertake project and also will be required to coordinate with other functional Managers to share and allocate appropriate resources to ensure project success. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide subject matter expertise within agreed-upon timeframes to Sales and Applications in the quotation process.
  • Recommend and implement metrics on customer satisfaction. During the life cycle of large system projects, maintain overall customer satisfaction by anticipating and preventing issues before they become customer concerns, and by optimizing the use of resources.
  • Persuade key technical personnel at the customer site that ATS is key to their success to influence subsequent buying decisions. Provide timely customer intelligence to Sales and Business Development. Monitor and report on internal customer satisfaction data to the General Manager, Nuclear.
  • Implement departmental policies and objectives as prescribed by the General Manager, Nuclear. Recommend departmental operating budget and operate department within the budget parameters.
  • Maintain an accurate project status tracking system. Collect, monitor and report on performance at the department level for accountable discipline. Ensure optimal utilization of resources.
  • Accountable for the successful execution of the projects. Resolve issues between different groups at the director level.
  • Perform SWOT analysis on department as required by the General Manager, Nuclear.
  • Recommend and implement best practices and standard designs to improve quality. Direct the execution of work to nuclear QA programs. Measure and report on quality performance data.
  • Assist with continuous systems design improvements on production machines.
  • Direct the assessment of new technology to meet anticipated customer requirements as authorized by the General Manager, Nuclear.
  • Perform SWOT analysis on strategic third party suppliers. Oversee the development of innovative programs to meet industry demand. Recommend and implement design and engineering procedures and standard practices to comply with industry specific regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for all engineering activities related to construction of CSA B51 and CSA N285.0 pressure boundary components within the ATS Certificate of Authorization.
  • Communicate, implement and refine the project team culture as prescribed by the General Manager, Nuclear.
  • Execute the manpower resource and development plan and assign projects to managers based on availability, skill set and team dynamics.
  • Make recommendation and refinements to job description, competency models, compensation strategy and pay scales.
  • Implement comprehensive performance reviews for direct reports. Produce succession candidates for the Director and Manager roles using the ATS process.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures.


Additional Information


Education: A post secondary degree in, Engineering Physics, Engineering Science, Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent. A Professional Engineer License would be an asset. Experience: Eight - Ten years of experience in nuclear systems design, development and qualification. Thorough understanding of nuclear tooling engineering and field issues, precision engineering principles and ASME codes is necessary. Good written and oral communication skills and ability to lead or work as part of a multi-disciplinary project team are essential. Professional Engineering Designation, with valid license in the province of Ontario is preferred. Why should you join ATS Industrial Automation?
