AECOM is seeking a Mine Remediation and Closure Practice Leader, Canada to be based out of any our locations throughout the country. This is a full-time role.

The person in this position will work on projects and develop opportunities that enhance our mine remediation and closure practice, with particular attention to mining clients nation-wide and federal clients North of 60. AECOM has a significant backlog of major mine closure project work in Canada. Our clients choose AECOM because of our mutli-discipline capabilities and track record of proven performance. We are seeking a leader with major project delivery experience with proven ability to build and lead teams.

The position is expected to entail an approximate 40%/60% split between managerial/business development activities and project work.

Managerial responsibilities will include:

  • Development and growth of the project team to meet work commitments, internal business collaboration and administration.
  • Business-development activities including building and maintaining existing and new client relationships, tracking marketing leads and project opportunities, developing proposals and presentations, networking, and sharing AECOM\'s capabilities with existing and potential clients.
Project responsibilities will include:
  • Collaborating with and coordinating multidisciplinary teams; development of work scopes, reviewing reports for regulatory submission (e.g., investigation reports, permit applications, management plans).
  • Reviewing technical work plans and cost estimates; interpreting data; conducting remediation/closure technology evaluations and feasibility studies.
  • Developing source control, remediation, reclamation, and closure plans; preparing technical reports; and coordinating site remediation and closure reclamation activities.
  • Additionally, the selected candidate will be involved in client and regulatory communication, staff mentoring.
As an expert in mine closure planning, remediation, and reclamation, you will bring technical expertise, sophisticated regulatory understanding, leadership skills, and an entrepreneurial spirit along with a keen interest in growing and evolving & growing the business and mentoring staff.

Your demonstrated commitment to safety along with a strong operational understanding of safety risks in mining environments, and ability to mentor junior employees to support a safe work culture will supplement AECOM\'s existing safety culture.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in environmental engineering, geological engineering, geo-environmental engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or eligible to be registered in provinces and Territories in Canada.
  • Technical knowledge of the federal, provincial, and territorial environmental regulations and programs related to environmental site assessments, environmental regulations, mine waste management regulations, and site remediation technologies strategies.
Qualifications of Interest:
  • 15+ or more years of relevant work experience highly preferred.
  • Advanced degree in environmental engineering, geology or geologic engineering, geo-environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field
  • Experience or interest in physical and chemical stabilization of mine rock stockpiles, tailings, and other mine land disturbances
  • Experience or interest in mine water management, contaminant fate and transport, environmental risk assessment, land reclamation, and/or land use planning
  • Authored and presented technical work on contaminated site remediation, mine waste management, or mine closure & reclamation.
  • Exposure to all stages in a project life cycle.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of regulations, codes and standards including relevant professional procedures and practices.
  • Demonstrates full awareness of responsibility for project planning and implementation.
  • Proven experience and ability to write and oversee professional proposal development as well as create and deliver effective presentations.
  • Demonstrates awareness of professional accountability.
  • Demonstrate an ability to competently use their initiative to resolve tasks or problems that arise.
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly with colleagues.
  • Actively seek personal and professional development opportunities.
  • Possess leadership skills and abilities including: communication, accountability, honesty, empathy, creativity,
  • Established network with mining or other industrial clients and the ability to develop or foster ongoing relationships and maintain a high level of client service
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships and participating in multidiscipline teams
  • Demonstrated project management and business development success
  • A flexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet project deadlines and/or client needs
  • Recognized as an expert in mine closure / reclamation with a dedication to and passion for your discipline
  • Consulting acumen, including an entrepreneurial spirit, strong self-direction, and overarching belief in client satisfaction
  • Experience in leading, mentoring, and training staff
  • Willingness to travel for project and business development purposes
